Matt Damon confirms he will return as Fake Loki in Thor: Love & Thunder. The upcoming MCU sequel will be Chris Hemsworth's fourth solo outing as the God of Thunder and Taika Waititi's second as writer/director after he dramatically shook up the tone of the Marvel sub-franchise in 2017 with Thor: Ragnarok. Waititi will also be back as the voice of Korg alongside other characters last seen in Avengers: Endgame, such as Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), the newly crowned King of Asgard, and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who is expected to wield Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor.

Thor 4’s cast will be much more expansive than this as set photos indicate it will cross over with Guardians of the Galaxy, which is no surprise considering where Endgame left off. Various Guardians actors were seen coming and going from the set in Australia, including Chris Prat, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn, who are all expected to reprise their roles in Thor 4. Now, another actor who was spotted in Sydney during production is confirming his role.

During an interview with Jess Cagle on SiriusXM promoting his new film Stillwater, Matt Damon was asked about his purported involvement in the upcoming Marvel film. Admitting he doesn’t know if the role is secret or not, Damon came clean about reprising his cameo for Thor 4 after he was spotted on set. Read what Damon had to say below, per ComicBook:

I don't know if it's secret or not though everybody knows. I went down there to shoot. I think they sussed out, because paparazzi took pictures of us so that they sussed out what we were doing. We were kind of reprising a cameo that we, that Luke Hemsworth and I did in the last one. And we had a ball and so Taika [Waititi] had us back again, to kind of run that joke back and upgrade it a little bit.

Though Damon is one of the most talented and in-demand actors in Hollywood, he has shown a willingness to appear in brief, uncredited cameos, including Deadpool 2 and most recently Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move. Before that, Damon appeared in Ragnarok as a random Asgardian portraying Loki in a re-enactment of his supposed death in the second film. Damon was not the only famous actor to cameo in this scene as Chris Hemsworth’s brother Luke took on the role of Thor and Sam Neill played Odin.

When Waititi came aboard the Thor series, the writer/director chose to really emphasize certain comedic elements and one of the earliest examples of this is the play Loki puts on at the beginning of Ragnarok. Based on Damon’s comments, it’s clear he will be back as Fake Loki when Thor: Love & Thunder revisits this bit. With set photos indicating that Melissa McCarthy will appear as Fake Hela, it will surely be upgraded this time around.
