Chris Hemsworth's founding Avenger is set to make a grand return in 2022 with his fourth solo film. Taika Waiti is also returning as director after reviving the character's solo adventures with his critically acclaimed Thor: Ragnarok. Thor will be joined by a slew of familiar MCU faces, including Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, and most of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Joining the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder are Christian Bale's villain Gorr the God Butcher and Russell Crowe as Zeus. Melissa McCarthy and Matt Damon are also set to make cameo appearances in what is shaping up to be a massive MCU film. Thor: Love and Thunder is currently slated for release on July 8, 2022 after being delayed a few months. It will be one of three MCU movies to release next year in between Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

While all of the attention has been focused on Marvel's upcoming multiversal adventures in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessThor: Love and Thunder will be a major milestone for the MCU. Not only will Thor be the first superhero in the MCU to get a fourth solo film, but it will also spotlight Jane Foster's transformation into Mighty Thor, a major event in the comics and a huge development for the big screen franchise. Whether or not this means Thor will be passing Mjolnir on to another hero and be officially retiring remains to be seen.

With Spider-Man: No Way Home releasing next week, it seems right that Marvel's promotional efforts will ramp up for their upcoming films. With rumors that a trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could debut before the end of the year and Thor: Love and Thunder having already wrapped filming, the God of Thunder's next adventure is closer than it seems. Once hype subsides on Peter Parker's third solo adventure, it seems Marvel is more than ready to give audiences a first look at Thor: Love and Thunder.
