Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi shares new concept art from the film that reveals the design of New Asgard. Following the destruction of Asgard in Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, the surviving Asgardians settle in Norway during the years between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. They call their new home, New Asgard, and it sits on the former site of Tønsberg - a city built where an ancient battle between the Asgardians and Frost Giants took place, and where Red Skull finds the Tesseract in the beginning of Captain America.

Raganarok did more to the MCU's Thor than destroy his homeworld, it also killed off much of his supporting cast and introduced brand-new characters as Thor's closest friends. Waititi himself plays one of these new characters, the rock alien Korg, while another is Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie. She comes to rule New Asgard by the end of Endgame, with Thor leaving for an adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy. It remains to seen what role if any the Guardians will have in Thor 4, but it's certain that some portion of the film will be set in New Asgard.

In an Instagram live broadcast during which Waititi watched Ragnarok along with fans (as well as cooked a lamb and chatted with Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo), the director shared a few shots of concept art from Thor: Love and Thunder. The images only appeared briefly, but one shows a concept design for New Asgard. Take a look:

Thor Love And Thunder New Asgard Concept Art

While this is by no means a good quality image, there are a few details we can make out about its depiction of New Asgard. For one, the settlement is much further along than when it last appeared in Endgame. Then, it wasn't much more than a fishing village, but this image depicts a more developed city. There are also some modern touches to the design, with those viking-looking ships appearing to sit on runways and a Mjolnir logo sign seen atop the main building.

Other than that, the image shows New Asgard is still set in scenic Norway, though this concept illustration seems to set it in a more mountainous location. This could mean News Asgard will have expanded by the time of Thor: Love and Thunder and it reaches across a larger section of landscape, or it's just a an artistic flourish to the design. After all, concept art isn't always indicative of how something will appear in the finished film, but it can give an impression of what the creators have in mind while working on the movie. In this case, Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder is returning to a New Asgard that's changed since Thor was there last, but it may not end up looking exactly like what's seen in this image.
