Matt Damon has reportedly joined the cast and crew in Australia to film Thor: Love & Thunder. Filming is supposed to begin sometime this month after months of getting delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Over the last few weeks, actors have arrived in the country in preparation for production including, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Chris Pratt, and Tessa Thompson, to name a few.

When the project was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, only three actors were previously confirmed for Thor: Love & Thunder: Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman, who will reprise Thor, Valkyrie, and Jane Foster. As the film got delayed, however, more news came out about it, particularly with regard to the movie's cast. During Disney's Investor Day, MCU architect Kevin Feige confirms that Gorr the God Butcher will be the villain of the story played by Damon's Ford v Ferrari co-star Christian Bale. But there's another high-profile actor to supposedly join the movie, albeit he's low-key been in the franchise before.

As reported by local news outlet News.com.au, Damon has supposedly landed in Australia to film Thor: Love & Thunder soon. He arrived with the rest of his family in Sydney via a private jet and is in a private facility where they're supposed to quarantine for days as mandated by the country's laws to stop the spread of coronavirus. The article says that his role is still unknown, but it's worth noting that the actor has played a random Asgardian in Thor: Ragnarok. Screen Rant has reached out to Disney for comment on this casting report.

Damon was among the surprise actors to cameo at the beginning of ThorRagnarok; he played an Asgardian portraying Loki during the re-enactment of the God of Mischief's supposed dramatic death in Thor: The Dark World. Meanwhile, Luke Hemsworth and Sam Neill took the roles of his brother and father. While that's essentially just a small part that's not exactly significant to the movie's overall narrative, his involvement drew a lot of attention, so it's curious if he's simply reprising that character. However, as the outlet said, it seems too much of a hassle to travel during a global pandemic just for a short cameo in Thor: Love & Thunder. Then again, Waititi may have expanded the role given the positive response to his involvement in ThorRagnarok.

There's also the possibility that Damon and his family's arrival in Australia have nothing to do with Thor: Love & Thunder. They have previously spent months in the country before coronavirus to spend time with the Hemsworths, whom he's become close friends with. That's actually how he ended up with a brief role in ThorRagnarok. Then again, if he's already around, Waititi might as well rope him in for another cameo.
