Chris Hemsworth kicks off filming on Thor: Love and Thunder with a post about Australia Day. Defying expectations that he would only get three solo MCU movies, Hemsworth will return once more to play Thor in 2022's Love and Thunder. The project will see him reunite with his Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, who will also reprise his Korg for the film. Love and Thunder was expected to begin production last year, but the coronavirus pandemic pushed things back considerably. Once planned for release later this year, Love and Thunder will now debut in May 2022.

Filming is set to take place in Hemsworth's home country of Australia, and recent arrivals in the area have given fans an idea of who will be in the fourth Thor film. In addition to previously announced inclusions like Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale, fans have spotted several Guardians of the Galaxy cast members touching down in Australia in recent weeks, as well as Sif actress Jaimie Alexander. Additionally, Matt Damon was spotted in the area, perhaps suggesting his Actor Loki from Ragnarok will be back for another cameo.

Last week, Hemsworth wrote production on Thor: Love and Thunder was set to begin in a matter of days, and today, January 26, is the official start. Hemsworth took to social media to celebrate the "beautiful start to our shoot today," which was marked with a "Welcome to the Country" ceremony from the "Gamay dancers of the Gadigal and Bidiagal Nation and performance and karakia by Maori dancers from Te Aranganui." January 26 is Australia Day, the national day of Australia. Indigenous Australians have sought to change this date, as it represents the harmful start of British colonization years ago. Hemsworth remarks on this in his post and advocates for a date change. You can see the full post down below.

Much of Love and Thunder remains shrouded in secret, though some major details have emerged in recent months. For example, it was finally confirmed in December that Bale is playing the villain Gorr the God Butcher, and the growing number of Guardians actors in the area has confirmed the entire group will be present. Plot specifics are still being kept under lock and key, though fans already know Portman's Jane Foster will assume the mantle of Mighty Thor in Love and Thunder.

After so many delays, it's exciting to know Love and Thunder is finally starting production. Ragnarok was very well-received by fans, and many are hoping Thor: Love and Thunder will be much of the same. Additionally, Hemsworth's comments about Australia Day are poignant, and it means a lot that he has given his support to Indigenous Australians. Hopefully some positive change can come about soon.
