Chris Hemsworth is the strongest he's been playing the God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder. After Avengers: Endgame, half of the original Avengers have retired from active duty, only leaving Hawkeye, Smart Hulk, and Thor as the remaining heroes in the MCU. However, the Asgardian Prince is the only one among them to be granted a fourth standalone film.

Following the success of Thor: Ragnarok from director Taika Waititi, Thor went through a personality makeover. For years, Marvel Studios struggled to figure out how to properly tackle the God of Thunder but with little success. As one of the main MCU heroes, he was often overshadowed by Loki, who's more fun to watch. That all changed in his third standalone film as Waititi recognized this problem and made Thor the best version of himself. Now, as the filmmaker and Hemsworth reteam for Thor: Love and Thunder, there's immense anticipation of what comes out of their collaboration this time.

Understandably, the actor can't speak much about what to expect from the upcoming blockbuster, but he reveals in a new interview with The Telegraph that he's been the "fittest and strongest" he's been in his years playing the God of Thunder. He adds that this is very important as he goes through rigorous filming for Thor: Love and Thunder in Australia:

This is probably the fittest and strongest I've been before all the Thors. Having this time at home meant I explored different methods, to see how I can manipulate my body with just the right amount of powerlifting and bodybuilding workouts.

There's an aesthetic that the role requires. Bodybuilding is seen as vanity, whereas if I put on a bunch of unhealthy weight, or got unhealthily skinny for a role, I'd probably be called a serious actor. The training across 10 years of doing it is a full-time job. That and then a 12-hour shooting day - it's real grind. It's incredibly rewarding, too - you have to look at it like a professional athlete.

Fat Thor Endgame

The last time Thor was seen in the MCU, he still has all the weight he gained in the five years since his failure to stop Thanos' snap in Avengers: Infinity War. It's unclear how long it has been between then and the events of Thor: Love and Thunder, but based on the set images that have emerged thus far from the new film, the God of Thunder appeared to be back in his superhero shape. It's uncertain whether or not Fat Thor will be featured, but it would be great for storytelling to see how he was able to lose weight; as seen in Endgame, this can't be instantly accomplished.

Not much is known about the plot specifics for Thor: Love and Thunder, despite a string of content from the set of the film. When it was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, it was also confirmed that it will tackle Jane Foster's arc to become Mighty Thor. But as for Thor's personal arc, there's not much that has been revealed, as he was supposed to be with the Guardians of the Galaxy before reuniting with his fellow Asgardians.
