Chris Hemsworth describes the pressure that comes with making next year's Thor: Love and Thunder. Hemsworth will play Thor, the MCU's beloved God of Thunder, for the seventh time with this new installment, which also marks the first time a character has received a fourth solo movie. Love and Thunder will pick up with Thor following the events of Avengers: Endgame, which saw him give up the mantle of Asgard's king so he could head off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Plot details for Thor: Love and Thunder are still being kept largely under wraps, though filming has been underway since the end of January.

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives after Thor: Ragnarok completely changed how the character was portrayed. Directed by Taika Waititi, Ragnarok reinvented Thor by giving him a new sense of humor, stripping him of virtually everything that made him who he is, and sending him on a colorful adventure to a trash planet. The previous two Thor movies received mixed responses, with 2013's Thor: The Dark World being considered a particular low point for the entire MCU. After those films, Ragnarok was a breath of fresh air.

Because of that, there appears to be some high expectations accompanying Thor: Love and Thunder. Hemsworth recently spoke to GQ Australia about the MCU film and admitted there's a new pressure this time around. "There's that same — if not more — pressure now to do that again," Hemsworth said. "So there's a little bit of exciting nervous energy that is motivating all of us to reach a little further and make sure we're covering all bases and approaching the scene from every angle." Evidently, Hemsworth isn't the only one feeling those high expectations.

Avengers Movies In Chronological Order

Ragnarok is often regarded as one of the best MCU movies thanks to how it altered Thor's characterization and provided plenty of side-splitting laughs. Recreating that magic will be no small feat. Since Waititi is back for Thor: Love and Thunder, it feels like many will believe this new installment is Ragnarok 2.0. There could be plenty of similarities between the two movies, but one shouldn't necessary expect them to be carbon copies. It isn't Waititi's job to do Ragnarok over again; he just has to make another fun Marvel movie. If it matches Ragnarok's quality, than that's even better.

Thor: Love and Thunder will feature some major returns from Ragnarok (like Valkyrie and Korg), but there will be several other familiar faces from previous installments. This includes Jane Foster, Lady Sif, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. In other words, while Thor: Love and Thunder isn't completely separate from Ragnarok, there should be enough new elements for Waititi to play with that will allow for something equally exciting that can stand on its own two feet. There may be some high expectations surrounding this new installment, but Hemsworth and Waititi appear to be up to the challenge.
