Thor star Jaimie Alexander has been confirmed, albeit accidentally, to reprise her role as Lady Sif in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. Alexander has been a mainstay in the Thor films after making her debut along the Chris Hemsworth in the 2011 origins film about the God of Thunder. Although it was a smaller supporting role, Alexander's turn as Sif was pivotal the establishment of Thor's allies in Asgard, along with the Warriors Three – Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Hogun (Tadanubo Asano), and Fandral (Josh Dallas) – who aided their friend in his Earth-bound showdown with The Destroyer (under the control of Tom Hiddleston's Loki).
And while Sif's role grew in 2013's Thor: The Dark World, the character, as well as the Warriors Three, have been virtually absent from all Thor: Ragnarok promotional materials, including director Taika Waititi's visually stunning first two trailers for the film. With the storyline expanding to add new characters such as Hela, Grandmaster, Valkyrie, Skurge, and a speaking Hulk to the mix, its easy to see how the presence of Sif and the Warriors Three could be missed without a lot of fanfare.
And while it shouldn't come as a complete surprise, a promotional spot for Sunday's episode of Talking with Chris Hardwick on AMC seems to confirm that Alexander is coming back for the new Thor film. In a fan tweet unearthed by CinemaBlend, the promo touts Alexander's appearance by saying, "Jaimie Alexander from Thor: Ragnarok is talking with Chris Hardwick Sunday night at 11." Now normally a promo like this could simply be construed as a mistake by producer, who simply could have assumed Alexander was appearing in Ragnarok because of her involvement in the first two Thor films. But what seems to give the argument that she has indeed been cast in Ragnarok is the clip that accompanies the promo, which shows Alexander playfully jabbing at Hardwick with a Sif-like prop sword. Otherwise, it seems unlikely that Alexander would be talking about a film series she was no longer involved in, much less imitating her character; so the odds seem to be in favor of fans who were rooting for a Sif comeback.
Whatever the case may be, her role in Ragnarok probably won't have a huge role in the film, considering her name isn't on the film's official poster. In fact, the role may even be reduced to one scene, where Hela wreaks havoc on Asgard.
While it's way too early for actors in Ragnarok to making promotional appearances on talk shows to hype the film, chances are that Alexander is appearing with Hardwick to promote the upcoming third season of her NBC crime drama Blindspot. That's at least what a tweet Tuesday from the official Twitter account for Talking with Chris Hardwick is touting. Oddly, enough, accompanying the tweet is a photo of Alexander on-set with Hardwick, holding a Sif-like replica shield. If it's all a coincidence, fans will find out for sure when Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters in November.
