Marvel Studios is less than a week away from debuting their latest and final film of 2016, Doctor Strange, which has made attention start to shift towards their upcoming 2017 releases. First out the gate next year is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which just released the first sneak peek, and will be followed up by the first solo Spider-Man film under the MCU umbrella in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Both are already some of the most highly anticipated movies of next year, but may be overshadowing fellow 2017 Marvel film, Thor: Ragnarok.

Unlike the movies that have come before, director Taika Waititi will be bringing a new style and story to this franchise and has plenty of characters at his disposal to make that happen. Mark Ruffalo will be making his first non-Avengers appearance as Hulk, and Marvel has also added an incredibly talented cast around the two stars. One of the new additions is Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and a new set photo has finally revealed a glimpse at her costume.

Twitter user b1gr1g has closely been following production, and was able to get within a reasonable distance of the final day of shooting from yesterday. While the official wrap video gave fans a chance to see Thompson wearing Valkyrie makeup, she was merely wearing pedestrian clothes. That changed later in the day, and thanks to b1gr1g, fans can now check out the costume for themselves, which appears to have stayed somewhat true to the comics.

Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie in Thor Ragnarok comic comparison

The costume appears to fall in line with the look of the rest of the film. Previous behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the film have shown off new, sleek, medieval style costumes for Thor, Loki, and Odin, and Valkyrie's costume looks to have a similar feel. As shown in the above comparisons, one of the most recognizable parts of Valkyrie's costume has been her blue cape. For die hard fans, they should be pleased to see that it made its way into the film.

After going the entire length of production without too much getting out from the set, a reveal on the final day is surprising as they were able to hide any definitive looks at Hela (Cate Blanchett), Skurge (Karl Urban), Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), and others. Since this photo does not offer a complete look at Valkyrie's costume, fans will have to presumably wait until the first footage is released to potentially see an official look at Valkyrie and the other new characters in costume.

For now, fans should be pleased to get any sort of look at Valkyrie. Not only is she a powerful warrior, but Marvel's ability to get a rising talent in Thompson, who starred in Creed and is in consideration to be the female lead in the young Han Solo film, could point to a prominent role for the character moving forward. Fans of the character will have to wait until Thor: Ragnarok to see just how big of a role she does have and could have in the future.
