He's best known as Hotch in Criminal Minds but where else have you seen actor Thomas Gibson? After getting his start in theater, Thomas Gibson made his TV debut on an episode of the Margaret Colin fronted procedural Leg Work in the late 1980s, followed by appearances in assorted soap operas like Guiding Light or miniseries The Kennedys Of Massachusetts starring William Petersen. His first film was 1992's Far And Away, a sweeping romance starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman; Gibson played a love rival for the affections of Kidman's Shannon.

Thomas Gibson's career started to pick up steam in the 1990s, especially after appearing in the acclaimed 1993 miniseries Tales Of The City, a role he later reprised in its 1998 sequel series. Following supporting turns in Marin Scorsese's The Age Of Innocence and underrated action gem Men Of War with Dolph Lundgren - which featured a script co-written by the great John Sayles - he landed a lead role on medical drama Chicago Hope. Gibson's Danny Nyland was a major character for the first three seasons before the actor left the series. During his time on the series he had guest appearances on the likes of Caroline In The City and the Rosemary's Baby-inspired TV movie The Devil's Child.

One of Thomas Gibson's most recognizable parts came with 1997's Dharma & Greg, a Chuck Lorre sitcom where he played an uptight lawyer who marries a free-spirited yoga instructor - hijinks ensure. This series proved popular and ended up running for five seasons in total, ending in 2002. Gibson also reunited with Cruise and Kidman during the show's run for Stanley Kubrick's final movie Eyes Wide Shut, released in 1999. Other notable projects from this era include prequel movie The Flintstones In Viva Rock Vegas, and following the end of Dharma & Greg, he appeared in several TV films, including Stone Cold, the first entry in the Jesse Stone series.

In 2005 Thomas Gibson landed arguably his most famous role as Aaron "Hotch" Hotchner on CBS procedural Criminal Minds, alongside his former Chicago Hope co-star Mandy Patinkin - who famously departed after only two seasons. Hotch played a major role in the series and suffered through some rough storylines, but the actor was later fired during season 12, following an altercation on the set with a producer.

Outside of Criminal Minds, Thomas Gibson's other major roles in recent years include voicing Deathstroke in animated adventure Son Of Batman and appearing in an episode of sitcom Hot In Cleveland. His most recent film was 2019's poorly-received action thriller Shadow Wolves.
