NBC's This Is Us has started production for season 4 with a brand new image revealed. NBC's hit family drama debuted in 2016 and quickly became a hit for the network. Early in its debut season, it was granted a two-year renewal. Season 3 ended back in April and just a little bit over a month after that, it received another three-year order, securing its run at least until season 6. After a short break for the cast and crew, everyone's back on set to work on the upcoming season 4, premiering later this year.

Focusing on the Pearson family, led by parents Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore), who have three kids, twins Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Kate (Chrissy Metz), and adopted son Randall (Sterling K. Brown), This Is Us tackles the collective and individual stories of the clan. The series takes on a non-linear form of storytelling, so it jumps through time, showing fans members of the family at different points in their lives. Season 3 ended with an integral flash forward scene that teased what looks like Rebecca's final days. While it confirmed some speculations, including the fact that Randall and his wife, Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), do not separate, it also posed some new questions that the show will likely provide answers for in the next three years, starting with season 4.

Now, Moore celebrated her first day back on set for This Is Us as the show starts filming for its upcoming outing with a new photo of Rebecca and Jack. In the caption, the actress expressed her excitement for the beginning of season 4. The series' creator, Dan Fogelman, also released a different BTS image of the fan-favorite characters. Both images were shared on Moore and Fogelman's respective Twitter accounts, check them below:

Fogelman's image confirms that they are filming for the first episode of This Is Us season 4 - episode 55 - although he didn't reveal any plot specifics with regard to what to expect in the premiere. Based on the Pearsons' get-up, however, it seems like they're starting the new year with a return to Jack and Rebecca's days before marriage, which was around the mid to late '70s depending at what stage they are in their relationship. Perhaps this was the time they got back home after their road trip to Los Angeles where they got to know each other. It's unclear how swiftly they jumped into marriage, but at this point, they both were serious about their romance.

It's a great idea to open up season 4 with a trip down memory lane with Jack and Rebecca's romance. Some of the subplots in This Is Us season 3 that didn't directly impact their relationship didn't get the reception of those that were fully focused on them, as evidenced by the viewership ratings. That doesn't mean the series needs to limit their narrative to the Pearson couple - in fact, they need to continue expanding their stories for a more dynamic and layered series. However, starting This Is Us season 4 with something that fans are already invested in is a great way to excite everyone for what lies ahead for the beloved family.
