The season 4 finale of This Is Us flashes forward to reveal Nicky (Griffin Dunne) wearing a wedding band, but whom is he married to? With the NBC family drama wrapping up its most recent outing, fans are inching closer to the show's final stretch, and This Is Us' latest episode includes some big reveals about the Pearsons' future.
Since people learned more about of Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) brother Nicky in season 3, fans have been curious how he'll factor in the lives of the remaining Pearsons. Despite initial skepticism toward his newfound family, Nicky eventually mellowed, particularly because Kevin (Justin Hartley) reached out to him. While Nicky still isn't a constant presence in the Pearsons' current lives, the This Is Us flash forwards confirm that he'll be an integral member of the family as Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) cognitive decline progresses.
After the season 3 finale flash forward revealed Nicky beside what appears to be Rebecca's death bed, fans have started theorizing what role he'll play as the Pearsons go through this difficult time. This Is Us season 4's finale revealed that as Randall (Sterling K. Brown) greets his mother, Kevin comes in to join him. Nicky, who's already in the room, stands up and gives his nephew a hug, and this moment highlights that Nicky is wearing a shiny wedding ring. The show hasn't revealed anything about his family thus far, so what does this mean?
Based on what's been revealed on This Is Us thus far, there are several plausible explanations for Nicky's wedding ring. For whatever reason, he might have married Rebecca. It's worth noting that Miguel (Jon Huertas) hasn't been spotted in any of the flash forward scenes. Considering that a significant of time has passed, he may have already died, and knowing that Rebecca needs a companion, a marriage of convenience between her and Nicky was arranged. This would explain why Nicky was staying in the same room as Rebecca when the pair aren't really close - at least in the present time.
Another possibility is that Nicky married Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison). Though Kevin slept with her, which makes the whole dynamic among the three of them awkward, it's not impossible that as Kevin becomes more occupied with the upcoming arrival of his twins with Madison (Caitlin Thompson), chances of him revisiting his brief fling with Cassidy seem unlikely. This leaves her with Nicky, who may offer a shoulder to lean on as she struggles with her own marital issues. They may eventually develop feelings for each other and decide to tie the knot.
Finally, Nicky may not be even married. The only reason why he's wearing a wedding ring is to accommodate Rebecca's hallucinations that he is Jack. Nicky's involvement with Rebecca may have something to do with her confusing him with his dead husband after she acknowledged how the brothers have the same eyes. Now that the Pearson matriarch's degenerative disease is confirmed, This Is Us fans can expect that the progression of her condition will be tackled in the coming seasons, leading to her death.
