NBC's tearjerker This Is Us has released a new clip from the show's second season. The first season of the critically acclaimed drama had everyone talking about its surprising twists and emotional plotlines. The series is such a hit in fact that it has already been renewed for season 3.

This Is Us centers around the Pearson clan, lead by Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and their children -- the Big Three -- Kate (Chrissy Metz), Kevin (Justin Hartley), and adopted son Randall (Sterling K. Brown). The show is told both in the present day and through flashbacks where the Pearson patriarch Jack is still alive.

And while audiences still don't know exactly how Jack died, creator Dan Fogelman told EW, "The first episode of the season holds not all the answers, but a huge piece of the puzzle" which should help those fans looking for answers.

The video above doesn't show anything about the mysterious death, but it does take a look at another part of the season premiere. In the This Is Us season 1 finale, Randall told his wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) that he wanted to think about adoption. The clip shows that the process may not be an easy one. While Randall is ready to jump in head first (like his own adoptive father), Beth is more hesitant. Moore's character reassures her son that it just takes one partner to give the other a push, showing that their mother/son relationship is still strong despite their rough patch last season.

Just seeing a scene from This Is Us shows what an emotional show it can be. It combines strong acting with even stronger writing and themes of family, traditions, and honoring the memory of those loved and loss. In the age of superhero shows and procedural crime dramas it's nice that quiet family show can be so successful.

That success has lead This Is Us to a number of awards including Emmy nominations for Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor for Brown and Ventimiglia, Best Supporting Actor for Ron Cephas Jones, Best Supporting Actress for Metz, Best Guest Actor and Actress, and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series. The show was also nominated for several Golden Globe Awards, but did not take home any.

As well as dealing with Jack's death, and Randall and Beth's plans to adopt, the second season of This Is Us will also focus on Kate and Toby's (Chris Sullivan) relationship and upcoming wedding, while also finding time for Kevin's new job in L.A. working on a movie (with Sylvester Stallone). Plus there are sure to be more surprises, (hopefully) more musical performances by Moore, and moving moments. Get your tissues ready.
