A new trailer for This England spotlights Boris Johnson's pandemic leadership. Belfast filmmaker Kenneth Branagh has transformed into the British Prime Minister for the five-part Sky Atlantic limited series, set to premiere on September 21, 2022. Based on the real testimonies of people from inside the government, the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, care homes, and hospitals, This England chronicles Johnson's leadership and decision-making after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US. Also starring alongside Branagh are Ophelia Lovibond as Johnson's wife Carrie Symonds, Andrew Buchan as the former Secretary of State of Health Matt Hancock, and Simon Paisley Day as Johnson's former aide and critic Dominic Cummings.

Now, Sky Atlantic has shared a new minute-long teaser trailer for This England. The video highlights the Prime Minister's time in office as he grapples with the societal and economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the state and public's response to his approach to the outbreak. The National Health Service's role in combating COVID-19 is also emphasized, and so is the ongoing political tensions between the Conservative and the Labor Party. Take a look at the teaser below

While Branagh's unrecognizable transformation as Johnson is remarkable, what's even more commendable is the objective commentary This England seeks to deliver as Johnson's time as the U.K.'s pandemic-era Prime Minister. Johnson's ministership proved divisive with many, but This England doesn't seem to lean into the polarizing sentiments of British citizens. Rather, as the teaser suggests, the miniseries seeks to tell a fact-based account of the right and wrong decisions Johnson made as he handled the pandemic, while not losing sight of the economic ramifications of his strategy. The subplots, including Johnson's own struggle with a potentially lethal COVID-19 infection and his political rift with Cummings, are also drawing quite some intrigue, and it will be interesting to see how This England explores those stories without any bias.
