There's no other series that does creepy, funny and stylish as well as American Horror Story does. For nine seasons now, the show has entertained and horrified viewers with its disgustingly unique and strange tales that mix various genres of horror into perfect, individual seasons.

Season 4 of American Horror Story brought the viewers into 1952 Florida, where a struggling freak show tries to survive amid the spread of television. With a cast of colorful freaks, no other character was quite as freakish as Finn Wittrock's Dandy Mott. Here's what most fans might not know about him, even after watching the season.

He's The Most Hated Character

Each season of AHS introduces a brand new villain. Sometimes, there might be multiple villains throughout the story, which makes things even more interesting. However, what sets Dandy apart from the other villains of the show is just how incredibly hated he is by the other characters.

Dandy represents everything the freaks despise. He's spoiled and incredibly rich. He could essentially do whatever he wanted with his wealth, while the freaks often come from unfortunate backgrounds and are struggling to make a living. Everyone Dandy meets treats him coldly or rudely.

He Was Subjected To Bad Parenting

Dandy's a bit of a unique character, to put it lightly. He's a very unusual person, and this has been the case ever since he was very young. Through his storyline it quickly becomes clear that he's had a lonely childhood. Gloria, although she spoils Dandy and would get him anything, was actually a very absent mother.

While most of Dandy's mental instability might be inherited and passed down genetically, a lot of his behavior is also dictated by how little Gloria stayed with him. Dandy's always surrounded by maids, and Gloria rarely deals with him personally, other than to buy him things or spoil him with meals.

He May Have Been Inspired By Elizabeth Báthory

The show is famous for including tons of references to not only horror movies or other movie genres, but also to books and even real historical figures and events. For example, Roanoke was almost entirely based on the historical case of the Lost Colony.

Freak Show follows the same vein. In fact, it could be theorized that Dandy's character is inspired to a degree by Elizabeth Báthory, a countess in Hungary who was rumored to have bathed in the blood of her servant girls in order to remain young. There's a scene with Dandy bathing in blood, which is very similar to these stories.

He Has The Early Signs Of A Psychopath

While it can be difficult to pin down exactly what Dandy might be suffering from mentally, many of the symptoms he has especially as a child are signs of early psychopathy. Dandy's described by Gloria to have enjoyed hurting animals, which shows his lack of regard towards other living beings.

It's also shown throughout the series that Dandy considers himself to be above everyone else. In his mind, he's a god-like figure: he can do no wrong or say no wrong. He's fully in love with himself and finds himself the most handsome man alive.

He's The Last Of The Mott Family

AHS has a big tendency to bring back characters or reference family lines in various different seasons. However, what's interesting about Dandy's family is that he's actually the last of his kind. After Dandy kills his mother Gloria, he's the only one alive.

During the finale of Freak Show, Dandy's closed inside a glass box that slowly begins to fill up with water. His death marks the end of the Mott family line, and since then there haven't been any relatives in any of the more contemporary seasons of the show.

He's The Second Mass Murderer In The Show

Murder is a common theme in AHS, and we've seen a ton of incredibly well-defined murderers throughout the series. However, the theme of mass murderers isn't actually all that common, as the series tends to focus on serial killers who are prolific over longer periods of time, such as Bloody Face.

Dandy is the shows second mass murderer, right after Tate Langdon. Both of them killed people in a very short time span, and roughly in the same geographic area, which qualifies them as very similar murderers.

He's The Real Antagonist Of Freak Show

Although at the beginning of Freak Show the viewers are led to believe that Twisty the Clown is the main bad guy of the season, it soon becomes very evident that this isn't the case. Twisty is actually less evil than Dandy, because he still attempts to entertain people and simply loses his way when he grows aggressive.

Dandy on the other hand has no desire to entertain anyone. He doesn't want to bring joy to people, but rather aspires to be a star in his own narcissistic fantasy world. This makes him a truly evil and selfish character in the worst possible way.

Speaking of murder and evil, AHS has introduced some very famous murderers over the years. From actual murderers seen in Hotel to the imaginary ones like Dandy himself, each of them has their own story, and their own kill count.

Up until season 5, Dandy was the worst murderer in the series. He killed roughly 25 people, even though some of them aren't actually confirmed kills, but it's easy to speculate his victims are dead. He was only beaten by James March, who has been assumed to have killed easily at least the double of what Dandy did.

He's Inspired By American Psycho

Of course, no psychopath would be complete without proper reference to other psychopaths. Dandy's character also took inspiration from American Psycho (2000), which showcases Christian Bale working out and taking extremely good care of his looks in an ultimate act of narcissism.

One of the most famous scenes with Dandy is his monologue during his workout. This entire scene gives off very strong American Psycho vibes, which are difficult to ignore. It's very likely that the creators of the show mirrored the scene to Christian Bale's scene.

While there are no new relatives of the Mott family in the more contemporary seasons of AHS, season 6 brought in Edward Philippe Mott, an owner of the Roanoke house. He's an ancestor of Dandy, but there aren't actually that many similarities between the two characters.

Edward is shown to be a great fan of art and music, so much so that he throws away everything to be in a relationship with his slave and lover Guinness. It's clear that both him and Dandy value art and artistry in general, but Edward is shown to be just a bit less murderous and self-serving as he faces his fate during the blood moon.
