The new trailer for They/Them stars Kevin Bacon as a creepy conversion camp owner. They/Them is an upcoming horror film produced by Blumhouse Productions. Blumhouse has produced primarily hit horror films in recent years, including Get Out, Freaky, and the 2020 remake of The Invisible Man. Their upcoming work also includes the Ethan Hawke-led The Black Phone

Now, an eerie teaser trailer for They/Them has been released by Peacock revealing Bacon’s creepy character, Owen Whistler, the owner of an LGBTQIA+ conversion camp, “Whistler Camp.” While the trailer begins with Owen Whistler saying to the campers, “this is a safe space,” the clock-like music ticking in the background and ominous diagonal split-screen effects suggest otherwise. The final moments of the trailer show a glimpse at a masked killer threatening the camp.

They/Them features a diverse cast of individuals playing the campers and Whistler Camp staff, including Anna Chlumsky, Theo Germaine, Carrie Preston. Quei Tann, Austin Crute, Monique Kim, Anna Lore, Cooper Koch and Darwin del Fabro. The film is the directorial debut of John Logan. Logan has previously worked as a screenwriter for prominent films including Hugo, Rango, and Skyfall

Blumhouse has a fantastic track record of producing creative new horror works since its founding in 2000 by Jason Blum. Though the They/Them trailer gives but glimpses of what is to come with the studio’s latest work, it shows great promise in creating innovative horror set against the already-horrific backdrop of a sinister LGBTQIA+ conversion camp. They/Them will be released on Peacock on August 5, 2022.
