Blumhouse Productions takes a stab at queer representation with its film They/Them, and the They/Them cast is integral in bringing the socio-thriller to life. They/Them combines slasher horror with social commentary as it follows a group of LGBTQIA+ teenagers at a conversion camp. As the program progresses, the campers must survive both the camp’s unsettling methods and the killer stalking the grounds, giving the They/Them cast a chance to shine in a variety of nuanced roles.
After decades writing for projects like Gladiator and Skyfall, John Logan makes his directorial debut with They/Them. In They/Them, Logan builds off of the horror genre’s complicated relationship with sexuality and gender to treat these topics directly. The film also carries personal meaning for Logan, as he aimed to create the heroic queer characters he never saw growing up.
The film promises a celebration of LGBTQIA+ liberation, and it keeps queer and trans actors front-and-center. Logan insisted on authentic casting, resulting in a diverse ensemble cast. They/Them also boasts a mix of old and new talent with a cast ranging from famed actor Kevin Bacon to new stars like Darwin del Fabro. Kevin Bacon as Owen Whistler
Kevin Bacon returns to slasher horror as Owen Whistler, director of Whistler Camp. Logan cast Bacon for his ability to switch between charming and scary, a skill his role of increasingly frightening camp director uses well. In his notable career, Bacon has also portrayed rebellious newcomer Ren in Footloose, as well as starring in iconic genre hit Friday the 13th.
Carrie Preston as Dr. Cora Whistler
Carrie Preston appears as Dr. Cora Whistler in They/Them, wife of Owen Whistler and camp therapist. Dr. Whistler poses a psychological threat, breaking down the campers' sense of identity in eerie one-on-one sessions. Preston has previously played lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni in The Good Wife and The Good Fight.
Anna Chlumsky as Molly
Camp nurse Molly is the newest member of the Whistler Camp staff. Played by Anna Chlumsky, Molly may not be as sold on the Whistlers’ ideology as she seems. Chlumsky’s past roles include Amy Brookheimer in the sitcom VEEP.
Theo Germaine as Jordan
In They/Them, nonbinary camper Jordan emerges as the teens’ leader as the danger escalates. Skeptical from the start, they dive into the camp’s dark past looking for answers. Jordan is portrayed by Theo Germaine, best known for playing James Sullivan on the Netflix series The Politician.
Quei Tann as Alexandra
Quei Tann plays Alexandra, who hides her transition from the camp staff. Tann has worked with Blumhouse Productions before, playing LuckyDuck in Cam. She is known for portraying Peyton Osborne in How To Get Away With Murder and Genifer in Dear White People.
Anna Lore as Kim
Closeted camper Kim is played by Katie star Anna Lore. Kim hopes Whistler Camp can help her fit in after years of hiding her attraction to women. Lore played Penny Farthing in comedy-drama Doom Patrol and Cindy in Faking It.
Monique Kim as Veronica
Bisexual teen Veronica is tired of hiding herself. What/If and Looks That Kill actress Monique Kim plays Veronica. Her most extensive work was for High Expectasians, where she received credit for acting, writing, production, editing, and soundtrack creation.
Darwin del Fabro as Gabriel
Gabriel is tired of being bullied for his sexuality, but his motives for attending Whistler Camp are more complicated than they appear. Gabriel is portrayed by actor and musician Darwin del Fabro. While They/Them is del Fabro’s first film, he has previously appeared in the series Dangerous Liaisons and Novo Mundo.
Austin Crute as Toby
While Toby is proudly gay, he traded a week at Whistler Camp for a trip to New York City. Crute’s notable films include the coming-of-age movie Booksmart and Daybreak, where he plays Alan and Westley Fists respectively. Like del Fabro, he also has a musical career.
Cooper Koch as Stu
Athlete Stu hopes Whistler Camp can cure his same-sex attraction. Stu is played by Cooper Koch, who recently starred as Benjamin in Swallowed. Koch has also appeared in shorts such as 4 Floors Up and Decadeless.
They/Them Supporting Cast & Characters
Hayley Griffeth as Sarah – The camp’s activities counselor. Griffith previously appeared in The Mysteries of Laura.
Boone Platt as Zane – a former camper who runs the camp’s athletic activities. Before appearing in They/Them, Platt portrayed Sergeant Gardner Grayle in Black Lightening.
