Nearly three years after it first got in the works, the official They Cloned Tyrone trailer arrives, offering the first proper look at John Boyega and Jamie Foxx's Netflix mystery movie. The film will center on Fontaine, Yo-Yo and Slick Charles, an unlikely trio who discover a dark conspiracy happening in their community. When they learn the government is experimenting on them and those they care about, the group will race against time to expose the dark truth and put a stop to it before it's too late.
John Boyega and Jamie Foxx lead the ensemble cast of They Cloned Tyrone as Fontaine and Slick Charles, with Candyman and The Marvels actor Teyonah Parris starring as Yo-Yo, J. Alphonse Nicholson, David Alan Grier, Robert Tinsley, Joshua Mikel, and Austin Freeman. Development on the film was first announced in late 2019 with Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry set to lead the cast, only for him to depart and be replaced by Boyega and filming finally kicking off in late 2020. They Cloned Tyrone is scheduled for a December release and now audiences are getting the first good look at the Netflix mystery movie.

Netflix Continues Elevated Cultural Storytelling
The official They Cloned Tyrone trailer is sure to capture the intrigue of many audiences who have fallen in love with the variety of elevated cultural storytelling that's become prominent in recent times. Between Jordan Peele with Get Out and Nope, Boots Riley with Sorry to Bother You, Nia DaCosta with Candyman and Diego and Julio Hallivis with American Carnage, amongst many others, a large variety of filmmakers have been able to infuse socially conscious storytelling in a wide range of genres. The They Cloned Tyrone trailer looks to be another welcome addition to this recent trend, with early reports likening the film to a combination of Friday and Get Out while the footage features a unique blend of the blaxploitation genre with said thematic writing.
One of the interesting takeaways from the They Cloned Tyrone trailer is its final stinger of a dead body that leaves the central group of characters confused and unsettled. Given John Boyega's voice can be heard stating "that wasn't me," it seems likely it could be a dead clone of his character, fitting in with the title's sci-fi theme, though given the nature of marketing for a film such as this, it also seems possible to be a fakeout for a different major reveal. Only time will tell when They Cloned Tyrone premieres on Netflix in 2023.
