The future is looking really bleak for Damian Wayne, the Son of Batman and now ex-Robin. Having left his allies in the Teen Titans, as well as his father Batman and Bat-Family in Gotham, the way forward looks pretty dark. So dark in fact that this could be the beginning of the the future the Legion of Superheroes hinted at when Superboy tried to bring Robin to the 31st century back in Brian Micheal Bendis' third issue from the start of this year.

In the present, Robin has determined to abandon his role as Robin for the foreseeable future. This happened in Teen Titans Annual #2 from writer Robbie Thompson with art by Eduardo Pansica. The death of the the Bat-Family's butler and surrogate father figure Alfred at the hands of Bane truly traumatized Robin, as the murder happened right in front of the young hero, who was powerless to stop it. Likewise, Damian's father Batman failed him, as he was dealing with his own grief and loss, causing the Dark Knight to neglect his son. As a result, Damian has decided to adopt a more lethal and permanent method of seeking justice, thereby alienating himself from his father as well as his fellow teammates in the Teen Titans.

This move is very telling and concerning, especially when DC fans consider Legion of Superheroes #3 from Brian Michal Bendis, Ryan Sook, and Travis Moore, which was released in January. When Damian's friend Jon was first initiated into the Legion and didn't yet know all of the dangers and rules of time travel, he invited Robin to join him on a case the Legion was dealing with regarding the Trident of Aquaman. However, as soon as the Legion learned of Damian's presence in the 31st century, they panicked, with Saturn Girl putting him to sleep with her powers, erasing his memory of the encounter, and placing him right back in the present, much to Superboy's confusion. Apparently there was great risk posed by Damian being in the future when he wasn't supposed to be, unlike Superboy own presence. Later, a group of the Legionaries talk a bit more about Robin, and it doesn't bode well for the Son of Batman at all.

Legion of Superheroes Damian Wayne

According to the Legion and their knowledge of their past, there's a very strong possibility that Damian will become an incredibly dark force in the DC Universe. So much so that he was being compared to Hitler, which is never a good thing. While Brainac 5 counters, saying that the comparison is unfair and that they're trying to avoid the outcome that leads to Damian's future darkness, it's quite possible that Damian's path has already begun going in that direction.

With Damian's future already so uncertain in the present now that he's on his own with the intent to kill criminals, it's more than likely that he's on his way to becoming what the Legion fears he will become. Previews for upcoming DC Comics have already revealed that Damian and Batman will be at odds in the near future, so it seems like it will only be a matter of time before the former Robin and Son of Batman becomes a rogue in his own right, with the strong opportunity for him to become even worse. With Superboy having returned from the future to speak with Damian, here's hoping Jon Kent can bring his fellow Super Son back to the light.
