It's been 22 years since the bewitching tale of Practical Magic hit the big screen. Centered around the Owens family and their witchy talents, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman star as the movie's protagonists, Sally and Gillian. The sisters are forced to go against a curse that's plaguing their family, which opens up a world of problems.
Practical Magic didn't do too hot in the box office but it has since gained a cult following, especially in present day. Take a look back at some of the main characters from the movie and what they're doing now.
Sandra Bullock (Sally Owens)
Sandra Bullock plays Sally Owens. Unlike her sister Gillian, Sally is level-headed and enjoys a stable homefront. After the death of her mother, Sally had no choice but to live with her spellcasting aunts.
Bullock is just as big of a star today as she was in the late '90s. Since Practical Magic, she's been in several movies that have totally solidified her career: Miss Congeniality, The Blind Side, and Ocean's 8.
Nicole Kidman (Gillian Owens)
Gillian Owens is Sally's sister and closest confidant. When the girls grew older under their aunts' watch, Gillian became rebellious. Although there was a family curse on any man they chose to fall in love with, boy-crazy Gillian followed her heart and found her match in Jimmy. It's not until her life with him takes a turn for the worse that she heads home to be with Sally.
Practical Magic is one of Kidman's best movies, but she didn't stop there. She's been in a ton of A-list productions including Big Little Lies, Eyes Wide Shut, and has four projects under production. Kidman just wrapped up Netflix's The Prom and is in an upcoming new series, Nine Perfect Strangers.
Stockard Channing (Aunt Frances)
Legendary actress Stockard Channing made it big after 1978's Grease. 20 years later, she starred in Practical Magic as Sally and Gillian's Aunt Frances. Frances may appear cold at times but she's doing her best to raise the girls without pain and heartache. It's because of her that Sally and Gillian were able to bring Jimmy back from the dead.
Now at 76 years old, Channing has an extensive filmography. Her last acting role was in 2017's The Guest Book, and she has a project in the works titled Lapham Rising.
Dianne Wiest (Aunt Jet)
Unlike Frances, Dianne Wiest's character, Aunt Bridget (aka Jet), is much kinder and more soft-natured. As a witch, she taught Sally and Gillian all about their family's history and how to use their powers. Although Sally went on to hate the fact that she was a witch, there was no denying her talents.
As spooky as Practical Magic was, Diane Wiest went on to star in dramas and comedies after her portrayal of Jet. She starred as Joan in the sitcom Life in Pieces, Dr. Toll in the thriller In Treatment, and will be in the 2020 movie Let Them Talk.
Goran Visnjic (Jimmy Angelov)
Goran Visnjic's character Jimmy was what horror movie nightmares were made of. He was an abusive drunk of a boyfriend who won Gillian over with his good looks and charm. Once Gillian had enough of his mistreatment, she called her sister Sally and left. However, Jimmy was on step ahead of the girls and essentially kidnapped them. After the girls killed Jimmy, they tried to bring him back to life but their witchy ways got the best of them.
Visnjic did a fantastic job as the villain. He continues to act today and was recently in Severed Silence, The Brides, and The Boys.
Aidan Quinn (Gary Hallet)
Aidan Quinn plays Gary Hallet; a witty and devilishly handsome investigator. After Jimmy goes missing, Gary follows the clues that lead him to Sally and Gillian. Upon interviewing them and taking a look around their massive home, he knows the women have something up their sleeve, but he's unsure of what. Shortly after meeting the women, he begins to fall in love with Sally and a dreaded relationship forms.
Quinn has been busy since the late '90s and continues to act. He currently has three films in post-production and has recently been in Elementary, The American Guest, and Change In The Air.
Evan Rachel Wood (Kylie)
Evan Rachel Wood made it big with her 2003 film Thirteen but before she was a daring teenager, she starred as Kylie Owens, Sally's oldest daughter. Like her mom, aunt, and great aunts, Kylie is also a witch and showcases early powers. She also looks identical to Sally's sister, Gillian.
Outside of Practical Magic, Evan Rachel Wood was in True Blood, Westworld, and even voiced Iduna in Frozen II. In 2020, Wood starred as Susi in Viena and the Fanomes and has two works in post-production.
Alexandra Artrip (Antonia)
Alexandra Artrip plays Antonia Owens, Sally's youngest daughter. Like Aunt Jet, she's carefree and lovable, and although she's young it's presumed she'll be just as talented with magic as her family is. A crossover between her character and Hallmark Channel's The Good Witch would believable.
Artrip only has three projects to her name: Practical Magic, Touched By An Angel, and Walker, Texas Ranger. Practical Magic was Artrip's last film but according to her Instagram it looks like she's recently married and has an adorable standard poodle named Oliver.
Mark Feuerstein (Michael)
Before Mark Feuerstein made it big on Royal Pains, he had a small role as Michael in Practical Magic. Michael fell in love with Sandra Bullock's character, Sally, and the two started a forbidden romance. They fell deeply in love, got married, and had two children, but when they were at their happiest, he was killed in an accident.
Since his time on Practical Magic, Mark has been in plenty of works including Netflix's latest The Baby-Sitters Club, 9JKL, and Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later.
Camilla Belle (Young Sally)
Actress Camilla Belle plays young Sally. As a child, she misses her parents who were taken from her too soon but is excited to live with her fun aunts who eat brownies for breakfast. It's not until Gillian moves out that Sally begins to resent her life as a witch and wishes she could start a family and fall in love like so many other people.
Camilla Belle had a successful career as a child star, appearing in Disney's Rip Girls and Jurassic Park. More recently, she was in 2017's The Mad Whale and 2019's Dollface.
