The trailer for The Wonder Years season 2 includes some big guest stars. Developed by Saladin K. Patterson, The Wonder Years is a reimagining of the series of the same name, which aired from 1988 to 1993. The new series tells the story of a middle-class Black family living in Montgomery, Alabama, during the late 1960s, unfolding from the perspective of the 12-year-old Dean Williams (Elisha “EJ” Williams). The Wonder Years cast also includes Dulé Hill, Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki, Amari O’Neil, Julian Lerner, Milan Ray, and Don Cheadle as the narrator.

After a bit of a delay, with the first installment ending in May 2022, The Wonder Years season 2 will premiere on June 14 on ABC with a special one-hour episode, which will be available on Hulu the following day.

The trailer features very familiar faces, including Donald Faison (Legends of Tomorrow, Scrubs), Titus Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale, The West Wing), Malcolm-Jamal Warner (The Resident), and Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens).

Based on The Wonder Years season 2 trailer, the upcoming episodes will occur during the summer of 1969. School is out, and the Williams family is planning a trip to Disney. But it's not all conflict-free, with Dean confessing that he has some personal troubles. He has feelings for a girl, who is dating one of Dean's friends. Although this leads Dean's family to laugh, he seems more conflicted about the whole thing.

Along with the guests revealed in the trailer, legendary R&B artist Patti LaBelle will join The Wonder Years for a few episodes as Dean's parental grandmother. In the role of Shirley Williams, who is also the church’s choir director, LaBelle plays a sweet character who can also show a different side when the choir members don't hit the right notes.

The Wonder Years has so far garnered largely positive reviews. The consensus found that the show captured the humor and heart needed for a family sitcom without losing its substance and the specificity of its characters' experiences. It could build on that acclaim with a strong second outing that's in keeping with the summer energy.
