Those who enjoy the world of the witcher Geralt, his adventures, fights, and relationships with other people, have a lot of materials to enjoy. There are, of course, the books by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski which have also been translated into English. Netflix made the super popular show The Witcher with Henry Cavill as Geralt.

And, last but not least, there are three successful video games that draw inspiration from the world created by Sapkowski. The third game, The Witcher 3, is the most celebrated of them all. Not only does it offer a strong storyline and many intriguing quests, but there are also some hidden details about the main characters the players may have missed.

Roach's Feast

Roach might not be human, but whoever would claim he wasn't one of the most important characters in the game would be sorely mistaken. Not only does Roach bring Geralt almost everywhere he wants to go, but the horse also never leaves Geralt's side and comes back when Geralt whistles, no matter how far Geralt is.

But since the focus usually lies on Geralt, it's easy to overlook that Roach sometimes goes to eat and drink when Geralt isn't riding her at the moment. It's a small detail but a nice one, since many horses don't like to stand in one position - and also, Geralt doesn't feed Roach in the game, so she has to take care of herself.

Yennefer's Crystal Skull

At the beginning of the game, Geralt is busy searching for Yennefer, who sent him a letter and asked him to meet. Even before the game kicks off properly, there's a cut scene showing Yennefer fighting.

Those who skip the scene (it's quite long, after all) might miss the fact that Yennefer loses her crystal skull in the fight. However, Geralt later has the chance to find it, loot it, and bring it back to Yennefer, which triggers a dialogue between them.

Protecting Geralt Against Bolts

Geralt can use multiple weapons in the game, but he mostly relies on his two swords, one silver and one made from steel. However, there's also an option for him to use a crossbow as his secondary weapon, which will come in handy, especially underwater when he has to fight the drowners or other creatures.

Even if Geralt doesn't use the crossbow, his enemies will gladly shoot at him. One way is to jump aside to avoid the bolts, but what every player might not know is that Geralt can also deflect the bolts with the Aard sign he normally uses for knocking down his enemies.

Nonviolent Solution

Geralt and Ciri in The Witcher 3

Geralt might be known as the ultimate monster slayer in the world of The Witcher 3 but that doesn't mean he has to solve every problem by using his fists or swords. There are multiple quests in the game where the player can either chose a violent solution or a more peaceful one.

For example, in the Paperchase quest, Geralt can beat the two dwarves working as security guards in the bank when he finds out the bank's manager spent all his money. Or he can give them an ultimatum - either they'll get his money back in a week or he won't be so friendly the next time. If the player chooses the nonviolent solution, they'll get more money in the end.

A Useful Umbrella

Geralt surrounded by a magical barrier after casting the Quen sign in The Witcher 3.

As far as the witcher signs are concerned, Quen isn't the flashiest of them all. It helps when fighting stronger enemies or a large group of them.

However, it can help even in less violent situations. When it's raining (and it's raining quite a lot in the world of The Witcher 3), Geralt can conjure up a Quen shield and the drops of rain will subsequently bounce off the shield so Geralt won't get as wet. Talk about a useful magical umbrella.

Hate For Beards

The Witcher 3 Geralt

Life as a witcher is full of excitement and fighting. However, Geralt also finds the time to do something else occasionally. That includes visiting a barber who can either cut his hair or shave his beard, or both of these things. Shaved Geralt is then the preferable option for the hero himself.

Even though he doesn't state it in the game, he actually prefers to be clean-shaven in the books. But even if the player lets Geralt get his shave, his beard will grow back again, just like in real life.

Wrong Hair Color

Ciri Witcher 3 Scars

Speaking of the characters' appearances, there's also the case of Ciri and her hair color. In the books, Ciri has ashen blonde hair, typical for the environment she comes in. However, in the game, her hair is more silver.

Why is this interesting? Well, not everyone may have realized that when Geralt describes her hair as ashen to many people during the game while he's looking for Ciri, he's actually choosing the wrong description! Perhaps if he called Ciri's hair silver instead, he would have been able to locate her much sooner.

Priscilla's Song

This detail is pretty obvious, but only to those players who actually watched the whole cut scene and not skipped it. Priscilla is a singer who forms a relationship with Geralt's friend Dandelion. When Geralt's looking for Dandelion, he goes to see Priscilla and watches her performance.

The lyrics might be cryptic to those who haven't been paying attention, but the careful players or those who read the books will quickly realize that Priscilla is singing about Geralt and his great love, the sorceress Yennefer... while Geralt himself is sitting among the audience.

Geralt Has Some New Skills

Again, this detail will be hidden only to some of the players. If they're not familiar with the previous two The Witcher games, they might not realize that Geralt has gained some sweet new skills in The Witcher 3.

Unlike in the first two games, where he could only walk and run, he can now also jump and swim - even dive underwater and search for treasure. That allows for some new quests that wouldn't have been possible before. Plus, his combat style and the way he moves when fighting is also different from the previous games.

Multiple Ends For Ciri

Finally, there are also multiple possible ways the game could end. Not every player might realize it, especially if they only played the game once and chose one of the solutions. The best choice probably is for Ciri to survive and become a witcher, because she can be free this way.

Or she can go and became the new empress of Nilfgaard, just like the emperor would want her to. Or, finally, there's the unfortunate option in which Ciri dies when she goes off to fight the White Frost - simply because Geralt wasn't supportive enough of her.
