Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from Brendan Fraser's triumphant cinematic comeback, The Whale. The Oscar Award-winning A24 film has just been released on digital, Blu-ray, and DVD through Lionsgate, packed with plenty of extra insight into the creation of the haunting story. Directed by Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan), The Whale is based on Samuel D. Hunter's play of the same name, featuring an incredible performance from not only Fraser but also his costars Hong Chau and Sadie Sink.

In The Whale, Fraser embodies Charlie, a kind-hearted but withdrawn English teacher whose morbid obesity and declining health prompt him to seek out a relationship with his estranged daughter Ellie (Stranger Things star Sadie Sink). His only other friend is his nurse Liz (Chau, 2019's Watchmen), with whom he shares a recent tragedy and who keeps him honest in a difficult world. The Whale explores themes of forgiveness and redemption in the face of humanity's weaknesses, and Fraser's powerful portrayal won him his first Oscar this week.

More About The Whale's Home Release

In Screen Rant's exclusive clip from The Whale bonus content, composer Rob Simonsen explains how the struggle Charlie has with his breathing throughout the film inspired the instruments he chose. A pump organ and brass instruments make up the airy sounds of the score, but Winne Clement's overtone flute is what Simonsen credits with the atmosphere of the film's music. Clement not only played the instrument for The Whale, he even designed the biggest overtone flute possible at 21 feet long.

The Whale home release contains bonus content that includes "People Are Amazing: Making The Whale" and "The Sounds of the Sea: Scoring The Whale." There are also subtitles available in Spanish and English SDH, and the film has a runtime of 117 Minutes.
