The Walking Dead is back after a long winter hiatus, and it brings with it an air or revolution. The series was well on its way to Rick and the other groups uniting against Negan and his Saviors at the end of the midseason finale, and now the long, presumably, eight-episode journey toward that confrontation is underway.
So far, season 7 has consisted of example after example of just what a bad guy Negan is, and why the overgrown bully has sown the seeds of a vicious uprising. Now that everyone has learned (over and over again) just the kind of guy Negan is, The Walking Dead is ready to do something about it. Enter the reinvigorated Rick, who wants to bring the disparate communities together and create a post-apocalyptic version of the Traveling Wilburys. The supergroup is intended to spread Negan's resources thin and to bring the fight to a group used to the submission of others. As everyone knows, the best way to deal with a bully is stand up to him.
'Rock in the Road' is the first step in the war against the Saviors, and it contains a major zombie-slaying set piece that's sure to be a talking point. If you'd like to discuss everything that happens in the midseason premiere without spoiling it for others, this is place to do so. Commenters can operate under the assumption that everyone has seen the episode, so feel free to discuss.
The Walking Dead continues next Sunday with 'New Best Friend' @9pm on AMC.
