Although The Walking Dead show is coming to a conclusion on November 20th, 2022, fans won't have to say goodbye to their favorite characters for too long since there are a couple of spinoffs in the works. While many fans are excited to hear that Rick and Michonne will once again be reunited in 2023 (via Digital Spy), there are a lot of fans who are also thrilled that Maggie and Negan will star in their own spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City.

However, the Maggie Rhee featured in this upcoming spinoff will likely be far different from the character in the original. Maggie's character went through many changes as her story progresses. While she learned to be a strong leader, she also made some questionable choices that proved to be cruel and vindictive. These decisions Maggie made occasionally depicted her as more of a villain than a hero.

Maggie Defends Hershel's Barn Walkers To Glenn

Maggie changed dramatically once Rick's group was introduced upon the Greene Farm. However, she and her family were not always the most reliable allies at the beginning of season 2. Earlier in this season, Maggie keeps it a secret that Hershel has been hiding walkers in his barn.

Although she knows this was a dangerous decision, she refuses to go against her father and defends his desire to keep the undead close to home. This choice to keep these walkers from the group, and ask Glenn to keep the secret, puts the others in danger.

Maggie Wrongfully Blames Lori After She And Glenn Were Reckless On Their Run

While they're still at the farm, Maggie and Glenn have a close call with a walker while picking things up for Lori. Rattled by the near-death experience, Maggie yells at Lori, blaming her for them being in danger despite Glenn being the one to agree to go on a run to a pharmacy.

While many people understand why Maggie was so rattled, her shouting at Lori caused further tensions between her family and the group. At this point, she and her family were still a danger to other people because they weren't fully aware of how dangerous the undead was.

Maggie Doesn't Look For Beth In Season 4

When the group loses the prison in season 4, Maggie immediately starts looking for Glenn. Though the audience knows Beth is safe (at first) with Daryl, Maggie is unaware of her sister's status and makes no effort to look for her.

Maggie, herself, admits her own faults in not looking for her sister after they were all scattered. While it was clear her love for Glenn drove her to seek him out, he was also more capable of taking care of himself. Had she sought out her sister, she may have been able to protect Beth from her sad fate.

Maggie Was Seen To Keep Prisoners Of War

Negan and the Saviors descend on Alexandria in The Walking Dead

During the war with the Saviors, Maggie loses many people and struggles with her desire to get revenge while also wanting to still be a good person. When her group gets the upper hand, she chooses to take Saviors captive rather than execute them.

While this seems kind on the surface, she also keeps them in poor conditions with little food and consistently threatens them with scare tactics. Her decision to hold these men captive and make them fear for their lives made it difficult for them to trust her group after the war ended, leading to heightened tensions among the original survivors and Negan's Saviors.

Maggie Plots To Kill Negan

After Rick decides to spare Negan and many of the Saviors at the end of the war, Maggie is outraged her husband's killer will get to live out his days. She decides to plot to kill him while he's in his cell, along with a couple of other people within her group that have similar feelings as her.

It's an unpopular opinion that Maggie was right in doing this, and most fans think her conniving nature was leading her down a dark path. Although her feelings were justified considering all of her loss and trauma, this plotting made her unpredictable and untrustworthy.

Maggie Executes Gregory

Throughout her time at Hilltop, Maggie eventually takes Gregory's place as leader of the group. Determined to gain back his title, Gregory plots to kill Maggie. After she is attacked while walking with her son, she has Gregory executed for this treachery.

There are many ways Maggie could have dealt with Gregory, including casting him out of the community and forcing him to fend for himself. By executing him, she made her leadership seem more totalitarian than anything, portraying herself as a dictator instead of a thoughtful leader.

Maggie Abandons The Hilltop

After the group deals with the threats of the Saviors, there's a time of relative peace. During this time, Maggie leaves the Hilltop and goes off with her son Hershel. As the leader of Hilltop at this time, she left her group vulnerable by leaving them to their own devices.

Following the destruction of Hilltop this past season, Maggie needs to find a new place by the finale where her people can be safe. This would be one way for her to make up for abandoning her people and not being there to defend them when threats like the Whisperers compromise their safety.

Maggie Tries To Kill Negan

Once Maggie returns to the show and discovers Negan is free of his cell and walking free, she is outraged and still determined to get justice for her husband. This leads her to make rash decisions that compromise her group's safety, including watching as a walker attacks Negan instead of exterminating the threat.

Although she may not like Negan and has a right to distrust him, her desire to see him die affects her ability to lead. Had she not desired to kill Negan while on a mission, she might not have had led her group into a dangerous, mysterious tunnel with unknown dangers.

Maggie Lets Gage Die

While Maggie and Negan make good decisions in season 11, they do not make a good call on watching Gage die in the train car in the tunnel. Although he had abandoned them in fear, this was directly due to Maggie leading her group down a dangerous tunnel in the first place.

Because of Maggie's part in putting him in danger, she owed it to him to help him survive the walker attack on the other side of the door. Watching him die, despite the fact that the group is able to fight against the same walkers later on in the episode, proved Maggie was becoming less considerate of others' lives.

Maggie Executes The Reapers

Maggie has gone through quite a transformation throughout the series. This is made clear when she decides to brutally kill the few remaining Reapers after her group wins the battle against them.

In this case, she was avenging the many people they had killed during their raids on communities, as well as the people in the community she was with when they attacked. However, this scene proved how cruel and cold Maggie has become, making split-second decisions to take multiple lives without immediate threat.
