In the world of The Walking Dead, there are heroes and villains, teachers and scholars, loners and social butterflies. All unique and complex, they struggle to find their places in this new and dangerous world. Negan led the Saviors, attracting many who leaned towards violence and taking what didn’t belong to them, while King Ezekiel ran The Kingdom with peace and kindness, and his people reflected similar traits.

Much like Dungeons & Dragons, The Walking Dead has a long history of putting characters into groups that say something about their personalities and views on morality in this dystopian world, but some of them fit with certain DnD classes more than others.

Rick Grimes - Paladin

Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead.

Heroic warriors bound by a sacred oath, Paladins' jobs are to uphold morality and justice in a fallen world. They stand for good against the forces of evil, and they protect those who need protecting.

Prior to the outbreak, Rick Grimes was a sheriff, sworn to a similar oath, and after the dead rose, he continued in that role. Albeit a flawed one, he was a leader when he didn't have to lead, and protected the helpless even when it put him in danger because that is just who Rick is as a person.

Michonne - Fighter

Michonne in The Walking Dead.

Masters of martial arts and skilled with a variety of weapons, Fighters are exactly what their name implies. They are warriors. They train tirelessly to master many combat styles, but tend to specialize in one in particular.

Michonne is rarely seen in a fight without her Katana and wields it with the fluid mastery, confidence, and bravery of a true Fighter. Armed with her wits and her sword, she is unafraid to boldly charge into battle whenever the need arises - whether it be against man or Walker.

Eugene Porter - Wizard

Eugene wearing protective glasses.

Wizards are the most scholarly of classes, as they are not necessarily born with their skills in magic. They continuously inundate themselves with their studies, eager to learn more from a fierce desire to understand the mysteries of the universe.

It has been said that magic is merely science that isn't yet understood, and that would make learning it very appealing to Eugene. Intensely intelligent and constantly continuing his pursuit of knowledge, it is Eugene's smarts that have gotten himself and his friends out of more than one close call.

Daryl Dixon - Ranger

Daryl holding his crossbow.

Described by DnD Beyond as "rough and wild looking," Rangers combine martial arts and a knowledge of nature to win a fight. Often solitary creatures, they are at one with the wilderness around them. They specialize in hunting and are masters of stealth.

Daryl Dixon is most at home on a hunt in the forest, with just him and his crossbow. That isn't anything new for the quiet loner. When he was younger than 12-years-old, he got lost in the woods for nine days straight, surviving only on berries, until he finally found his way home again.

Father Gabriel - Cleric

Father Gabriel in the Walking Dead.

A priestly champion, a Cleric's magic stems from power divined from the gods, only bestowed on those considered worthy. Clerics are noble helpers. They heal, they befriend, they inspire, but they also use their magic to curse enemies.

Father Gabriel isn't perfect. He has struggled with cowardice, but he has repented from his old ways. Now, he is a protector, emotionally and physically. He served as a determined therapist for Negan in Alexandria's jail cell, but was more than willing to rain down hell on anyone who tried to hurt the ones he loved most.

Negan - Warlock

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan in The Walking Dead

Warlocks are gifted with their magic through pacts - and not always with the nicest of beings. Sometimes leaders of cults or servants of dark lords, their magic is not necessarily the strongest, but they combine that power with being skilled fighters.

Introduced as the leader of the cult-like Saviors, Negan is a terrifyingly effective combination of intelligent, manipulative, and fierce. He would have no hesitation in making a pact if it meant more power. A subclass of Warlocks, Hexblades specifically have a weapon tied to their pact that they can summon at will. Lucille, anyone?

Luke - Bard

Luke.

Bards may not be the first to rush into a fight, but that doesn't mean that they don't have any skills to bring to the table. Bards use music as a conduit for their power. According to DnD Beyond, Bards are masters of song, speech, and the magic contained in both.

A music teacher prior to the outbreak, Luke is not the strongest of warriors, but he uses the skills that he has to make the world a better place. Smart and eager to preserve music and arts, Luke understands the importance of the things that many people consider unnecessary.

Carol Peletier - Monk

Carol in The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 16

Rather than making pacts with demons or taking on years of scholarly learning, Monks harness the power coming from their own bodies, both spiritually and physically. Masters of martial arts, they are strong and stealthy fighters.

Carol began the series as a subdued and nervous housewife, terrified of her abusive husband that had kept her under his thumb for so many years. It was only with his passing that she discovered her true potential, not through outside sources, but from her own strength within.

King Ezekiel - Druid

Ezekiel looks off to the side with a smile in a scene from The Walking Dead.

Druids are at one with nature, preferring it be left unspoiled. Spiritual beings, they seek to understand and live in harmony with what they find sacred, rather than abusing it for their own gain.

King Ezekiel is a wise and kindhearted ruler that seeks to understand how people and animals work, rather than judge them without understanding what makes them tick. That's part of what leads him to be so intrigued by Carol, and what causes him to save the life of a wild tiger at a zoo after the outbreak.

Maggie Rhee - Rogue

Lauren Cohan as Maggie in The Walking Dead.

A jack of all trades and master of none, Rogues are stealthy, and prefer to use their own smarts over strength or impressive weapons. Independent survivors, they are not always criminals but are willing to do what they have to in order to survive.

Maggie may not have started out as a Rogue, but the class likely would appeal to her by season 10. Glenn's death broke a part of her that she hasn't been able to fix. She tried being a leader, but eventually abandoned Hilltop to be on her own, festering in her anger at Negan for taking her husband away, but not wanting to give him the satisfaction of death when he begged for it.
