The cast of characters within the CW's long-running supernatural romance series The Vampire Diaries are diverse, unique, and they each fill very specific and important roles within their group as well as within the story itself. Every character has something different to offer, and they all have their own very personal appeal.

Given the variety that exists within the characters, it comes as no surprise that certain players within the show tend to appeal to a certain type of person in the audience. So with that in mind, what does everyone's favorite character on The Vampire Diaries say about them?

Elijah Mikaelson - You Love The Classics

While for the most part The Vampire Diaries tried to take a hipper, edgier look at vampire lore, Elijah Mikaelson is probably the most stereotypical classic vampire character within the entire series.

Anyone who can call him their fave is likely the kind of person who appreciates tradition and time-honored ideas over anything that feels too en vogue (and that is likely to go out of style just as quickly as it became stylish).

Matt Donovan - You're Relatable

Generally speaking, TVD does do quite a good job of making it seem like it's characters are normal teenagers who have been thrust into this bizarre and difficult to navigate supernatural world, but no one seems like the average Joe out of water quite as much as Matt Donovan does.

Anyone who loves his character more than all the rest is likely someone who is very easy to relate to.

Enzo St. John - You're Happy-Go-Lucky

Throughout the course of it's eight seasons, the show has had many characters who knew how to have fun, but as a result of being stuck with the Augustines for decades, Enzo missed out on a lot of the joys of life for many years.

However, unlike most characters in the series, he didn't torment himself over his bad experiences, and seemed to find a lot of silver lining to enjoy in life.

Klaus Mikaelson - You're Complex

The Vampire Diaries was home to many great villains over the years, but it seems fair to say that Klaus may have been the very best. He was terrifying, mysterious, and intimidating at first, but as his character developed, he got even more interesting.

Klaus was a villain, but he wasn't only a villain, and he had one of the most intriguing character arcs of any character. Any fan of Klaus is a fan of complexity.

Katherine Pierce - You're Clever

The Mystic Falls gang went up against many adversaries over the years, and although Katherine Pierce was never the most powerful, she may have been the smartest and most manipulative.

Katherine always had a plan, and a backup plan for her plan, and a backup plan for her backup plan. Anyone who loves Katherine the most out of all of the characters is likely just as brilliant as she is.

Bonnie Bennett - You're Moral

Out of all of the characters in the series, it seems like Bonnie Bennett is the most heroic person who never really got her due. Her magical power was astounding and unlike anyone else's, but what really set her apart from the crowd is what she did with that power.

In a world populated with characters who didn't hesitate to cross moral lines, Bonnie was genuinely looking out for the innocent and using her power for good.

Caroline Forbes - You're An Achiever

Every one of the characters within the series with the exception of a few either had some innate magical power or wound up gaining it at some point, and Caroline is no different.

However, as a human she always felt undervalued, and when she became a vampire she used it as a catalyst to become the person she always wanted to be. Caroline wasn't born who she was, she had to work for it, so her biggest fans are undoubtedly hard-working achievers as well.

Elena Gilbert - You're Caring

Elena Gilbert wasn't always a perfect heroine, and there were certainly times throughout her story that she wasn't the kind of friend, girlfriend, or family member that most people would want.

But for the most part she was a very loving and self-sacrificing individual, so it makes sense that her fan base would reflect those qualities as well. Elena's biggest fans are likely big-hearted and compassionate people.

Stefan Salvatore - You're Thoughtful

In a place like Mystic Falls, it makes sense that many of the characters are focused on just surviving from one day to another without putting a whole lot of thought into the bigger picture.

So then, it's interesting that Stefan is someone who actually does have a more intellectual and philosophical approach to his immortal life. Those who call Stefan their favorite likely relate to him in this way, and they probably are the deep thinkers of the Vampire Diaries fandom.

Damon Salvatore - You Love Excitement

Damon Salvatore is many things, and he showcases different sides of himself at different times (often with shocking, gruesome, or unexpected results). But one word that can never be used to describe Damon is boring.

Anyone who considers Damon to be their favorite character in the series undoubtedly likes to be intrigued and entertained above all else. It doesn't matter what is causing the excitement, Damon fans just want to be thrilled.
