Out of all the CW shows that are out there, it's no news that The Vampire Diaries was one of the top television shows during the height of the vampire craze several years ago. With Vampire Diaries, TV got steamier and supernatural, bringing about crazy plot twists and the best on-screen kisses to date.
Throughout its 8-season reign, we got some of the best couples: Stefan and Elena, Damon and Elena, Caroline and Klaus. Some couples were long-lasting, others were short-lived, and some should have never happened at all. Out of all the couples on the Vampire Diaries, which relationships were actually successful?
Damon and Elena
As one of the biggest couples in Vampire Diaries, it comes as no surprise these two lovebirds - Damon and Elena - were the most successful. Even though Elena started out with Stefan, her love for Damon went far beyond what anyone expected.
Sure, maybe Elena reminded Damon of Katherine a little bit, but these two had a meant-to-be type of love. And it’s true - they got married and lived the rest of their days with each other.
Stefan and Caroline
Coming in right behind Delena is the lovable Steroline. Stefan and Caroline are a perfect example of friends to lovers that also ended with a happy ending (sort of).
Caroline always had a soft spot for Stefan and when he finally realized she liked him back, the two finally did the thing and got married! They were a sweet couple and a big favorite in Mystic Falls.
Bonnie and Enzo
To say we were robbed of their happy ending is an understatement but Bonnie and Enzo together were the epitome of a couple happily in love and that is why they are ranked high.
Like always in Vampire Diaries, Bonnie’s happy ending was always stolen from her, so when they took Enzo away from her it came as no surprise. However, she got an epic love with Enzo and in the end, that’s all that matters.
Stefan and Elena
As the first couple to grace Vampire Diaries, it’s unfortunate that they’re not listed higher. These two were the ultimate favorite, the high school sweethearts.
They had a great run in the first few seasons of Vampire Diaries, but as people grow, relationships evolve (and so did Elena’s feelings for Damon). Stefan and Elena were the original dynamic duo, but just because they ended, didn't mean they stopped loving each other!
Bonnie and Jeremy
Before Enzo came along, Bonnie and Jeremy were a thing. These two were scandalous - the main character’s best friend and the main character’s brother. These types of pairs usually end up being epic and Bonnie and Jeremy were definitely epic.
Unfortunately for these two, Jeremy had to go away, considering Elena’s involvement in the supernatural put him at risk (and culminated in Jeremy’s death).
Caroline and Tyler
Just like Bonnie and Jeremy, these high school sweethearts lasted a while and it was good while it lasted. They were each other’s first love and would do anything for each other.
Caroline even helped Tyler come to terms with his wolf gene and helped him transition. It wasn’t until Klaus came along and Tyler’s obsession with getting rid of Klaus surpassed his love for Caroline. Speaking of Klaus...
Caroline and Klaus
These two are the love story we never got (and you can blame Julie Plec for that one). Caroline and Klaus were #endgame. Unfortunately, due to their back and forth and the fact that Klaus died in The Originals, we never got their happy ending.
But with these two, we got a forbidden love made up of sweet endearments, devotion, and a lifelong friendship. Let’s just say “He’s your first love, I intend to be your last,” may just be the most romantic thing ever uttered in this show.
Alaric and Jo
Alaric and Jo were the couple everyone loved but we never got to have. Alaric’s relationships always ended up short but that’s because they were always caught in his web of supernatural events and ended up being killed.
And unfortunately, Jo suffered the same fate. At least we got to have a wedding. Sort of?
Katherine and Damon
It comes as no surprise that Katherine Pierce makes an appearance, especially when she was the infatuation of Damon for a very long time.
He would’ve done anything for her, even after she left him high and dry centuries ago. They were a toxic pair and those never end well.
Katherine and Stefan
Last but not least is Stefan and Katherine. While these two were passionate, they were doomed to fail considering Katherine was using Damon and Stefan at the same time, but also because Stefan wasn’t really into her either.
At least, not as much as Damon was. They fizzled out fast, despite Katherine liking Stefan more, and that’s a good thing.
