The recent return of Rebekah and other Mikaelson family members in the final season of Legacies has everyone reminiscing about the iconic characters. When Klaus and Elijah descended upon Mystic Falls in The Vampire Diaries, they brought with them their selectively sweet yet formidable sister, Rebekah Mikaelson, along for the ride. Though she appeared only for a short period of time on TVD, she was more prominent in The Originals.

Rebekah was a truly unique character, especially because she was the only female Original vampire in the whole world. Her status brought with it unique problems that her brothers could not understand, as she yearned for her own family and true love, which was impossible to do as a vampire. Loyal and likable, Rebekah's dialogue summed up her character well.

“I’ll Run Away From Love If You’ll Run Toward It.”

Season 3, The Originals

There were plenty of relationships for Rebekah across both shows, and she was extremely self-aware of her weakness for love. She had fallen for many wrong men and a few right ones, but she was smart enough to know that she needed to take a break sometimes.

This was why she told Klaus that she was ready to turn her back on Marcel, who was her true love, if he let love into his life, who was Cami at that point. She loved love, and she wasn't afraid of that.

“I'm Stuck In A Body That Might Swallow Me Whole.”

Season 2, The Originals

Doing the worst things came easy to Rebekah, which was why she was more than a bit surprised when somebody managed to get the better of her. For a thousand years, she had been indestructible, but when she was in Eva Sinclair's body, she almost lost her own soul to the evil witch.

Rebekah was in Eva's body for a long time, and she could perform witchcraft while she inhabited her. Being fragile made the Original feel just a bit too helpless because she wasn't used to it, which was surprisingly fitting with how she often felt emotionally.

“Us Girls Have Got To Stick Together.”

Season 1, The Originals

The popular Mikaelson sister said this a lot, even though she had wronged plenty of women in her life, including Elena and Caroline. Rebekah did seem softer towards women who were helpless or attacked by men for no good reason, which was why she defended the Casket Girls and many others after them.

She believed that men were oppressive and egotistical, which was fair since she had grown up with Klaus. Asserting her feminine energy and power and extending it to other girls was important to her.

“Who Do We Have To Kill?”

Season 1, The Originals

Rebekah wasn't called the Queen of New Orleans lightly, especially since she was fiercely devoted to her family that built the city. The Original sister would do anything for her kin, and killing people to eliminate their problems was something that was quite acceptable to her.

She was a fearsome warrior, with a thousand years of combat experience behind her. She could best anyone easily, and if the motivation was to protect the Mikaelsons, she did it even better.

“That Is Enough Talk About Harming That Baby!”

Season 1, The Originals

Rebekah talks with Hope in front of Xmas decorations in Legacies

Hope was a blessed child because she had an Aunt as dedicated as Rebekah who took care of her and hid her from the world and all the bad people in it. Rebekah loved Hope even before she was born, and wouldn't tolerate a word said against Klaus' baby.

Her maternal instincts came to the fore when it came to Hope, and she gave up everything to cloak her and raise her as a newborn.

“I Am A Liar, A Betrayer. I Have Conspired Against My Own Blood…”

Season 1, The Originals

Niklaus, Elijah and Rebekah

For all their familial loyalty and claims of "Always and Forever," the Mikaelsons plotted against each other just a little too much. They always had each other's backs, but they also harmed each other the most.

After tolerating Klaus' authoritarian nature for too long, Rebekah sought to destroy him by plotting with Marcel. She attempted to break out from under Klaus' thumb, but that didn't work out too well for her.

“I Just Want To Be Free.”

Season 1, The Originals

The Originals Freya, Rebekah, Kol, and Elijah meet Hope for the first time

Having free will and not being tied down to family drama was a deep and fervent desire of Rebekah's, even though she couldn't stay away from the Mikaelsons for too long. She voiced her wish to Elijah early in The Originals, but even then it was clear that she couldn't stay away.

Klaus was not a kind brother to her and he restricted her life a lot, so all she wanted was to drive away into the night and have adventures of her own, away from the drama.

“We Don't Abandon You, Nik.”

Season 1, The Originals

The reason why Rebekah and Klaus were always at loggerheads was because Niklaus had deep-seated parenting and abandonment issues, and Rebekah tried to gently tell him that his family had never actually left him alone.

She had stuck by him even when he was cruel to her because she loved her brother dearly. Rebekah just wanted Klaus to be a bit more accommodating, because she put up with a lot to always stand by him in the worst fights.

“I Want A Family. I Want Someone To Love Me, And I Want To Live.”

Season 1, The Originals

Vampire Diaries Rebekah Mikaelson Cure

Despite being an immortal vampire, being human was Rebekah's secret yearning. She longed to fall in love for the final time so that she could raise her own children with her soulmate, which was impossible to do as a vampire.

No amount of super strength, mind control powers, and resilience as an Original could substitute what her heart wanted, which was to have her own little children and a loving partner.

“Goodbye, Marcel Gerard. Do Try To Stay Alive.”

Season 1, The Originals

After scouring the earth for a love that deserved her, Marcel was the man who could match her needs and wants. This quote signified that their romance was a star-crossed one since she left him behind more than once in her life.

Rebekah trusted the universe with Marcel, and eventually, they found their way back to each other after all the supernatural struggles and battles.
