Katherine Pierce is one of the most badass characters of the popular TV show The Vampire Diaries and she's fan-favorite for many people. Katherine was the main villain of the show in the second season and even though she did many heinous things, she did them in style, so it was difficult not to like her.

Unlike her human doppelganger Elena, Katherine had a much more free-spirited nature, which also mirrored in her choice of clothing. Katherine wore a lot of amazing outfits in the show but she also made some fashion mistakes along the way. Here are her five best outfits and five worst.

Best: Green Dress

A lot of vampires in the show seem to have a soft spot for black clothes, probably because they feel like they mirror their dark souls. Katherine is no exception to this rule. But even she was once human and she used to dress differently back then.

Katherine was turned into a vampire in the 15th century, and as such, she wore a lot of pretty dresses back then. Like this beautiful green dress that shows off her perfect skin and long dark curls. She didn't often wear her hair this way in the show but when she did, she looked amazing.

Worst: Messy Outfit

Does it really need much explaining what's wrong with this picture? Katherine is usually perfectly dressed and well-coiffed, not a hair out of place but she looks like a mess in this picture. The only bonus points she gets is for matching the color of her jacket with the color of her hat but all the positives end there.

This outfit doesn't really flatter her, it's too dark and has nothing to break out the monotone color. Her hair is even worse, it's in total disarray and Katherine looks her best when she has her hair down, not up in a messy bun.

Best: Little Black Dress

Every woman should have a least one little black dress in her wardrobe, or so people say anyway. Katherine apparently took this rule to heart and she sported black minidress early in the second season when she went to a party. She wore a mask and had her hair in a high updo and straightened.

The outfit is fairly simple but the pattern of the dress makes Katherine stand out, just like she prefers to since she likes to draw attention to herself. The dress compliments her lean figure well and combined with the simple but pretty jewelry, create a great look.

Worst: Dull Colors

It's not by far the worst outfit Katherine or anyone else for the matter ever wore on the show and she still looks good in the dress but it's more despite it than because of it. The dress doesn't really fit Katherine all that well, from this angle it looks like it might be too big in the chest area.

The puffy sleeves were all the rage in the past but they only draw unnecessary attention to the fact that Katherine has arms that might be just a bit too skinny. And finally, the dull greyish color also doesn't help since it makes normally vibrant Katherine look less lively.

Best: Lady In Black

Katherine likes to dress up and wear pretty dresses if given the chance which is not that surprising considering the time when she was born and grew up. But even when she sports more practical, everyday clothes, she finds the way how to add her specific charm to the outfit.

An all-black outfit could easily turn boring but Katherine made it work nonetheless. First, she shows off her neck and collarbones which disrupts the unity of the black color and leads attention to Katherine's hair. Second of all, the belt is on the right side of edgy and creates a perfect combination with the jacket.

Worst: Wrong Length

Again, this outfit isn't one-hundred-percent bad and it still looks a lot better than a lot of the clothes Elena Gilbert and other characters wore. But with that said, it could have been improved. What works is the color of the shirt. The pink creates a good contrast with the darkness of the jacket and Katherine's naturally dark brown hair.

But it's the jacket that brings the overall outfit down by a few points. The color is alright but the shape and length are not ideal for Katherine. It could have looked better if it was buttoned up, but when it's open like this, it makes the upper part of Katherine's body look too wide.

Best: Red Dress

Here's another excellent outfit from the human period of her life when Katherine still thought that Klaus was interested in her romantically and she had no idea he was planning to sacrifice her in a ritual. Katherine pulls off elegant dresses like no other heroine in the show, and that's especially true when it comes to period clothes.

The 15th-century fashion had a lot of charms, and this red dress, alongside the green ones shown above, is one of the best Katherine wore in the show as a human. The color is very flattering to her since it's a well-known fact that brunettes look amazing in red.

Worst: Too Serious

When it comes to all-black outfits, it's always a little like lottery. Either you win or you lose, and even the queen of fashion herself, Katherine Pierce, doesn't always hit the mark when it comes to dressing only in black. Like in this outfit which is far from flattering to Katherine.

The jacket is somewhat alright if nothing to write celebratory poems about. But the t-shirt is even worse. It might be caused by the lighting in this scene but the shirt looks somewhat shabby and worn-down like it was lying in Katherine's wardrobe for years. Plus, she looks too pale in the scene and the dark clothes don't help in the slightest.

Best: White Innocence

When Katherine came back to Mystic Falls in 1864, she pretended to be human since she knew to admit her true vampiric nature would only bring her problems and people would try to kill her (as they indeed did later on when they found out the truth about her).

To help the pretense and make it look like she was just an innocent human girl, Katherine wore a lot of dresses in light colors, such as this predominantly white dress with some green thrown on top. It contrasts very nicely with Katherine's dark locks and her skin looks radiant in the dress.

Worst: Pretending To Be Elena

When Katherine came back to Mystic Falls and it turned out that she didn't die, she caused a lot of chaos not only by killing people but also by pretending to be Elena. She had her job cut out for her in this area since she and Elena are doppelgangers and look the same.

So all it took was for Katherine to straighten her hair and change her clothes to pretend to be Elena. But those clothes very rarely flattered her since she and Elena have a completely different fashion style and Katherine looked bored by Elena's clothes every time she had to wear them, like in this scene, when the dark clothes did very little for her looks.
