With Legacies ending, the popular The Vampire Diaries franchise has now concluded as well. While the hit vampire series spawned two spinoffs, including The Originals, that first series remained very popular, even as it replayed on streaming services like Netflix.

However, The Vampire Diaries ended in 2017, and while the show and cast were extremely popular, not a lot of them are working on anything new at the moment. With that said, two of the main stars have several new movies or TV shows coming out between the two of them and a handful of others have some big projects on the way in 2022 and 2023 as well, including both a DC and Star Trek TV series.

Nina Dobrev - The Out-Laws

Elena lying down on The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev played the orphan Elena Gilbert who fell in love with a vampire in The Vampire Diaries. She starred in the show for six seasons before leaving in Season 7. Coming up next for Dobrev is a Netflix movie coming up called The Out-Laws.

While there no release date yet, this will be the latest Adam DeVine movie on the streaming giant. DeVine stars as a bank manager whose bank is held up by a group of criminals on the week of his wedding. However, he begins to think that the criminals might be his future in-laws (Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin). Dobrev plays his fiance, Parker.

Nina Dobrev also has an independent movie coming that she has a lot more to do with than just her role as an actor. Dobrev will executive produce and star in the movie Sick Girl, helmed by first-time director Jennifer Cram.

In the movie, Dobrev plays Wren, part of a group of lifelong friends who have grown apart. However, after she tells one white lie, it tears the entire community apart. There is no official release date yet for the movie.

Nina Dobrev - Reunion

As the busiest of The Vampire Diaries cast, Nina Dobrev has a role in the upcoming comedy movie Reunion. She is part of an impressive cast that also includes Jamie Chung (Once Upon a Time) and Chace Crawford (The Boys). However, the movie's lead is comic actor Lil Rel Howery (Get Out).

The movie follows a murder that takes place at a high school reunion party that takes place during a snowstorm, that leaves everyone trapped in an isolated mansion.

Nina Dobrev - The Bricklayer

Arguably, the biggest movie coming up for Nina Dobrev is the upcoming action-thriller The Bricklayer. The movie has a big-name director onboard with Renny Harlin, who previously directed Die Hard 2. She will also be co-starring with Aaron Eckhart in the movie.

According to the synopsis, The Bricklayer sees someone blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it look like the U.S. agency did it. When the world starts to unite against the United States, the CIA has to bring its most brilliant agent out of retirement to unravel the conspiracy.

Paul Wesley - Flowers In The Attic: The Origin (2022)

While Ian Somerhalder was seen as a huge future star, he hasn't appeared in a movie since taking his lead role in The Vampire Diaries. He did take part in the horror series V-Wars on Netflix, but it ended after one season and he has nothing lined up for the future. However, Paul Wesley, who played his brother Stefan, has been keeping busy.

One of his most anticipated upcoming series is the adaptation of the V.C. Andrews series Flowers in the Attic. Arriving in July as a Lifetime original movie is Flowers in the Attic: The Origin. This will show how Olivia became the villain fans know so well. Wesley takes on the role of a man named John Amos.

Paramount+'s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the new Star Trek spinoff series. The first season brought back the original caption of the USS Enterprise, Christopher Pike, voiced by Anson Mount. The series focused on the decade before the new crew took over in the original series.

The next captain will show up for the first time in Season 2. Paul Wesley will star as the iconic Captain James T. Kirk in the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Kat Graham played Elena's best friend Bonnie, a very powerful witch on The Vampire Diaries. She lasted until the finale of the show and was responsible for helping Elena return to the land of the living. Her next role will be a big one for fans of a certain group of reptile superheroes.

Graham will voice April O'Neal in the upcoming Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. The movie continues the story told in the Netflix series of the same name that aired from 2018 to 2020, which saw Graham voice April there as well. Morgan is joining the cast of Titans in Season 4, which will arrive later in 2022 on HBO Max. In the series, he will take on the role of Brother Blood, one of the Titans' worst enemies from the comics as well as one of the main bad guys from the animated movie Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.

Lauren Cohan - Isle Of The Dead

Before she won over fans' hearts as Maggie on The Walking Dead, Lauren Cohan was on The Vampire Diaries. Cohen played Rose-Marie, a 500-plus-year-old vampire who was best friends with Trevor. She appeared in a handful of episodes across seasons 2 and 3.

For people who love Cohan, and especially those who love her performance on The Walking Dead, she will soon be appearing in a new spinoff series in 2023 called Isle of the Dead, alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who will return as Negan.
