The Vampire Diaries creator Julie Plec is famous for creating memorable, nuanced characters in TVD, and Caroline Forbes is a fan favorite for that very reason. Even though she was an immortal vampire, Caroline had her own fears that kept her up at night. She was confident and unbeatable, but Caroline worried for her friends, family, and herself.

Surrounded by innumerable villains, Caroline had enough reasons to be afraid. As such, her fears varied from physical danger, to emotional harm. Sometimes, she wasn't scared of the bad guy, but terrified of how much she liked them.

10 Lack Of Perfection

Caroline in The Vampire Diaries

As a Vampire Diaries character, Caroline was a high achiever, and her perfectionism was a rather large factor in her accolades. Whether it was a dance or even a loved one's birthday, she had to do the most. In fact, she was afraid of anything being even a little flawed, which wasn't very healthy.

While it was a hindrance in Caroline's daily life to want everything to line up perfectly, it was ultimately harmless. She just enjoyed organizing soirées and doing admin work to the best of her abilities.

9 Giving In To Her Feelings For Klaus

Klaus and Caroline were clearly soulmates, but it was very difficult for the latter to admit to her love for the Original hybrid. He had hurt her friends immensely, and she couldn't bring herself to fall for him without caring about her loved ones.

Being in love with the wrong man was certainly scary for a romantic like Caroline, but it was also perfect for her. She did eventually give in to her desires, and the outcome wasn't as awful as she thought it would be.

8 Stefan And Elena Getting Back Together

When Caroline started developing feelings for Stefan, her jealousy started setting in. She was unnerved by Stefan and Elena's friendship and feared that they could get back together, and that her affection would be unrequited.

The worst thing that happened to Caroline was losing Stefan, but her biggest fear of a Stelena reunion never happened. She was correct to be on her guard since they shared so much history, but Stefan loved Caroline in the end.

7 Being Rejected By Her Parents

Becoming a vampire brought out the best in Caroline, but her parents' prejudices were truly frightful. Neither of the Forbes parents thought vampires should exist, and both of them rejected Caroline after she became a vampire. This was understandably not easy on her.

Caroline loved her folks immensely, and their approval meant everything to her. Bill went so far as to torture the bloodlust out of her, which was terrifying, but Caroline still supported him till his last breath.

6 Bonnie And Elena Getting Hurt Emotionally Or Physically

The friendships in The Vampire Diaries ran deep, but none as much as Caroline, Bonnie, and Elena's love for each other. Caroline was constantly worried about her friends dying, especially Elena who was human and vulnerable for a long time. She was also worried about Elena's emotions getting hurt by Damon.

Caroline had killed to save Bonnie's life. Since she had no family left, her friends were the most important. Objectively, losing friends who are like family is daunting.

5 Katherine

By killing Caroline, Katherine ultimately did her a favor. However, that was never Katherine's intention. She was still a ruthless killer and manipulator, who threatened and intimidated Caroline to spy for her.

Caroline wasn't cut out to do others' dirty work, and she was genuinely afraid of unpredictable Katerina. It is because of Caroline's plot armor that she got out of this situation unscathed.

4 Werewolf Bites

Werewolves had been looming threats to Caroline throughout the show. She had been captured and tortured by them (which Tyler ignored) and fatally bitten by one, which Klaus healed later with his blood.

A werewolf bite meant death for vampires, which was why it was fair for Caroline to feel panicked about being around sharp, werewolf teeth. She had had too many close brushes with death.

3 Losing Her Mother

Liz was Caroline's only surviving family, and the mother and daughter were very close. They had passed many hurdles together and shared a healthy relationship. Naturally, Caroline wanted her mother around as long as possible.

Tragically, Liz was taken away from Caroline because of cancer, and the vampire's best efforts couldn't save her. It was a heartbreaking and horrifying moment.

2 Josie And Lizzie Getting Hurt

Most mothers are protective of their children, but Caroline's unease about Josie and Lizzie was more than usual because of how gifted they were. She had given birth to magical children who were too young to know better, and the twins were in demand for their skills from a young age.

Caroline was determined to protect them from this since it put their lives in danger. Her maternal instinct had always been dominant, and she wasn't going to let her children get hurt.

1 Being Human Again

For Caroline, being human meant something else entirely. Vampirism lent her charisma, focus, and energy like no other, and it brought forth all of her best traits, which were hidden when she was human.

Therefore, losing vampirism would have meant regressing to an older, less generous Caroline in her mind. To her, it would be a different existence and her biggest fear was going back to her old life in The Vampire Diaries.
