The Umbrella Academy star, Emmy Raver-Lampman, has given an update on season 3, describing it as a massive season and revealing her hopes for a summer release. The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix original series based off of the comic books of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The series follows the superpowered adult Hargreeves siblings as they attempt to save the world from an imminent apocalypse. The seven Hargreeves, adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, are among 43 children with unique powers born on the same day to women who previously showed no signs of pregnancy.

The Umbrella Academy's first and second seasons received fairly positive reception. Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger by revealing that the Hargreeves' actions in the 1960s caused changes in the timeline that led to the creation of The Sparrow Academy in the present. It has now been over a year and half since season 2 premiered and left viewers hanging with the unexpected twist at the end. However, after pandemic delays, updates on season 3 have been few and far between. While it has been confirmed that Umbrella Academy season 3 wrapped filming, it has still not been given an official release date nor has it released an official trailer.

In an interview with Collider, Umbrella Academy star, Raver-Lampman, gave a brief update on season 3. Unfortunately, it seems Raver-Lampman is as in the dark about season 3's release date as viewers are. She can only hope along with viewers that season 3 does come along this summer. Raver-Lampman revealed that they have just started doing ADR for the season and there is still quite a lot of work that needs to be done. The upcoming season is massive, according to Raver-Lampman, and looks incredible from the snippets she has seen. Check out her statement below:

I hope this summer because I want to see this season so badly. We've started doing ADR and it's a massive season. There's just a lot of work in post that has to be done, but the little snippets that I've seen so far when I've been working on ADR in the studio, it looks incredible and it looks so exciting, and it just has a completely different energy. So, for everybody's sake, including my own, I really do hope it comes out this summer. I'm so ready to see it.

Raver-Lampman's update reveals that there is still work to be done on Umbrella Academy season 3. Netflix previous confirmed a 2022 premiere date for Umbrella Academy season 3, but it is unclear from Raver-Lampman's statement just how soon in 2022 the season will premiere. On the one hand, Raver-Lampman's hope for a summer release could be indicative of progress being made. However, on the other hand, the star did admit that season 3 is still a work in progress and the massiveness that she teases might lengthen the time needed for post-filming work. Delays and the pushing back of premieres has been common in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, even making it a possibility that Umbrella Academy season 3 could be pushed further back than 2022. However, Raver-Lampman's hopes for season 3 raises viewer's hopes as well that a summer release is more likely.

The latest update for The Umbrella Academy will have to suffice for the restless viewers who are getting impatient for season 3. Raver-Lampman's details of a massive season is in line with the teasers that viewers have received over the past year. From releasing the episodes titles, to sharing the Sparrow Academy character posters, to confirming the featuring of Hotel Oblivion, Umbrella Academy has given viewers just enough information to know that big things will happen in season 3. The stakes are higher than ever with the Umbrella Academy coming face-to-face with their biggest rivals yet, while also dealing with the mystery of the remaining 43 children and Reginald Hargreeve's origin story. For now, there is not much viewers can do to bring about Umbrella Academy season 3 aside from joining Raver-Lampman in hoping and willing it into existence for summer 2022.
