Though fans want an Ayer cut to the first Suicide Squad, which was directed by David Ayer, it’s time to look forward, as the upcoming reboot/sequel The Suicide Squad features so many things to be excited about.

More than anything else, the absolutely bizarre characters are the main attraction, as the narrative of the movie wasn’t even revealed in either of the two trailers that have been released. Though one of the titular squad’s obstacles will be Starro the Conquerer, which looks like something straight out of Adventure Time, the trailer was clearly showcasing all of the new anti-heroes, and Reddit has spiraled into a frenzy about them.

Bloodsport

Though fans are cautious that the character will end up being like a stand-in for Deadshot, as the two characters are both deadly assassins with armor-covered suits, they’re still excited about Bloodsport thanks to Idris Elba in the role. Many were disappointed that the actor wasn’t playing Bronze Tiger, but the way he looks in the trailer is incredible. Interestingly enough, the character actually looks like his character in Hobbs & Shaw, as the tech suit he wears in the movie looks almost identical to that of Bloodsport.

Amanda Waller

Viola Davis as Amanda Waller in The Suicide Squad

There aren’t many characters from the first movie returning, as Deadshot, El Diablo, and many others are all off the roster, but the woman who wrangled them, the Nick Fury of the Suicide Squad, makes a return. Amanda Waller was one of the best things about the first movie, and fans want to see her back. The character has no mercy, as she’s willing to take anybody’s life at any moment, and her compromising nature is why fans of the series are so excited to see her return.

Black Guard

With stunt casting seemingly being James Gunn’s favorite type of casting, as it’s been used so many times for The Suicide Squad, this is the best example of it.

The comedian and SNL alum Pete Davidson will be portraying Black Guard. And though he isn’t an actor first and foremost, fans are excited to see the character because the comedian has been on an acting hot streak lately with movies like Big Time Adolescence and The King of Staten Island. But as the character is somebody who is easily manipulated into ruining his own crimes, fans are already speculating that he’s going to be the first character to kick the bucket.

Harley Quinn

Another returning character, Harley Quinn had the most screentime in the first movie, and she got her own movie with Birds of Prey, but fans can’t get enough of her as they’re still excited to see her in her third appearance. Claiming that there hasn’t been a character that has ever been cast better than Harley Quinn, her return is a big deal to many. However, considering how many characters are in The Suicide Squad and how much of the trailer focuses on the others, this time around it might not exactly be her movie.

Arm-Fall-Off-Boy / T.D.K.

TDK’s arms detach on Corto Maltese in The Suicide Squad

A character who can detach his arms from his body to use them as weapons, Arm-Fall-Off-Boy is almost unknown among fans, and it just goes to show how little imagination has gone into the character as his name just describes his special ability. But that’s why it’s so funny and why the character is perfect for the James Gunn movie.

However, the name is something that hasn’t stuck in the movie, as Gunn has changed his name to T.D.K., or that’s at least the character’s name as it’s shown in the credits. As the character is so minor in the comics and is barely featured in the trailer, fans are already betting that T.D.K. gets killed early on, but some are hoping he makes it to the end unscathed.

Weasel

Weasel The Suicide Squad (1)

Weasel has repeatedly been called the Rocket Raccoon of The Suicide Squad, as Gunn also directed the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and Weasel looks almost as trigger-happy. Fans have been extremely descriptive when talking about Weasel’s features, going as far as to say that the character has been smoking Heisenberg’s blue crystal meth. But regardless of what the creature has been smoking, fans think that he could actually be the soul of the movie.

Thinker

One of the reasons that fans are so excited for the upcoming reboot/sequel is that they finally get to see a villain with depth, and it’s looking like that’s exactly what they’re going to get with Thinker. Fans are most excited to see him due to the actor who's playing him, Peter Capaldi.

The actor is most famous for his role as the Doctor in Doctor Who, but one fan wants Capaldi to play Thinker just like he plays Malcolm Tucker, the iconic spin doctor in the political comedy The Thick Of It. However, given that Thinker is the movie’s big villain, it’s surprising how little there was of him in the trailer, as he appears in one shot and doesn’t even have any lines. However, he does have a voiceover monologue at the beginning of the second trailer.

Polka-Dot Man

Polka-Dot Man shoots polka-dots from his hands in The Suicide Squad

As The Suicide Squad is one of the most anticipated sci-fi movies of 2021, some viewers might be turned away by seeing the kooky-looking Polka-Dot Man. But most fans couldn’t be happier, as some think he’s going to end up being the MVP of the whole movie.

Of all the criminals in the movie wearing ridiculous outfits, Polka-Dot Man wins, as he wears a skintight jumpsuit that’s covered in polka-dots. Even to fans of comic books, the character is relatively unknown, but interestingly enough, it seems like he has a major role in the movie alongside Peacemaker and Bloodsport.

Peacemaker

Peacemaker takes notes during Amanda Waller’s seminar in The Suicide Squad

With the way the trailer was cut together, it almost seems like Peacemaker is going to be the lead character of the entire movie. The character wants to achieve world peace... by ruthlessly murdering every wrongdoer he can get his hands on. There’s a specific reason to be excited to see Peacemaker, as Warner Bros. must love what they’ve seen of the character because a spin-off HBO series about him has already been announced, and viewers are almost more excited for that than they are about the movie.

King Shark

King Shark eats a human in The Suicide Squad

Above anything else that was shown to fans in the trailer, nothing is being talked about more than King Shark, a character that viewers of the trailer have been obsessing over. Fans were excited to see the character on screen before the trailer was even released, but given how cartoonish the human/shark hybrid looks, people are now beyond excited.

Fans found him cute more than anything, even despite literally ripping enemies in half and sucking on skulls in the trailer. The character could very well be the secret to the movie’s success, as even viewers who aren’t fans of the DC Extended Universe are on the King Shark hype train.
