In 2016 the world got introduced to a film that built up a lot of hype and turned out to be perhaps the worst superhero movie of the modern era in Suicide Squad. Fast forward to now, and a new film revolving around the team of villains is coming, and despite the previous disappointment, the excitement is high for The Suicide Squad.

Everything seems to be working with this movie from what we know. The immensely successful DC Fandome gave us a glimpse into the film and gave us a flood of information while also inspiring many theories on what is to come.

What We Know - Reboot

From the moment a new film got announced revolving round this group of villains fans speculated as to whether or not it would be a follow up to the 2016 flick or a total reboot.

It is not a total reboot, but it is not a sequel. The film is a soft reboot, a reintroduction of sorts, and has kept some of the cast and characters from that original film; hopefully, a great Harley Quinn and some of the same actors are the only similarities in the finished product.

Theory - Rated R

Over the past few years, rated-R superhero films have proved themselves to have limitless qualitative potential, with the likes of Deadpool and Logan, maybe even the original Suicide Squad would have benefited from an R-rating.

It seems likely this film will be rated-R, what we know of the film seems to lend itself to being home to a lot of death, blood, and profanity. However, there is a chance it will get a PG-13 if that is the case there is no reason why James Gunn couldn't do as good a job as he did on Guardians Of The Galaxy.

What We Know - Release Date

2020 has been a rough year for everyone and for cinema. Mass delays and a severe sense of unknown when it comes to the long term future of theatres have made this a terrible time for film and its fans.

In some sort of sick silver lining, 2021 looks to be a big year for film with a lot of 2020's delays taking place then, and 2021 movies remaining there. The Suicide Squad is slated for an October 1st, 2021 release.

Theory - Taika Waititi's Role

Taika Waititi has established himself as an absolute star behind and in front of the camera over the past few years. After voicing Korg in the MCU, comic book fans have a mysterious appearance in this film to look forward to.

There are a few theories about Waititi's role; some believe he will voice King Shark, putting a comedic spin on the character who is physically played by Steve Agee. Some also think he may even voice the Sean Gunn played Weasel, similar to how Bradley Cooper voiced Rocket Raccoon while Gunn did the motion capture. There is another theory that Waititi will voice the big bad of the movie, who pops up later.

What We Know - Gritty 70s War Movie

DC Fandome allowed fans a fantastic insight into a variety of DC projects, and alongside a look at the eclectic cast and characters of The Suicide Squad, fans got a behind the scenes look at the film.

In that, fans get the movie described to be a gritty seventies war movie, with James Gunn's characters and comedy throughout. What we have seen about the film seems to back this up, and it looks like a phenomenally good time.

Theory - Ratcatcher 1

One of the many, many characters who will appear in the film is Ratcatcher 2, played by Daniela Melchior, a character who, like most others, has an unknown role in the movie in terms of how much she matters.

Ratcatcher is a more obscure DC villain, and for some reason she is called Ratcatcher 2 in this film, prompting many fans to believe Ratcatcher 1 may appear, and may even get killed in the movie prompting the introduction of Ratcatcher 2.

What We Know - Death

One point that has come up time and time again about the movie is that fans should not be getting attached to the wide variety of characters, this coming from James Gunn and the behind-the-scenes look at the film.

It is safe to say death is inevitable. With such a varying cast with a lot of obscure characters, as well as the name of the group and nature of Amanda Waller, death will likely come swiftly at the start of the movie, and then throughout.

Theory - Two Task Force X's

Going off the idea of death being so prominent in the film, as well as the vast array of characters, one popular, and extremely likely theory is that there will be divided teams.

There could be a case of Waller repeatedly trying to complete the mission with different teams, or simply splitting up a large group into multiple, leaving perhaps only one group standing at the end, likely Harley Quinn's. There are many possibilities, but it seems almost 100% clear that there will be more than one Task Force X.

What We Know - Cast & Characters

The Suicide Squad sees James Gunn as writer and director, the cinematography from Henry Braham (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2), editing from Fred Raskin (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood), and a whole host of great actors.

These include; Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Idris Elba (Robert DuBois/Bloodsport), John Cena (Christopher Smith/Peacemaker), Joel Kinnaman (Cpt. Rick Flag), Peter Capaldi (Clifford DeVoe/The Thinker), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), David Dastmalchian (Abner Krill/Polka-Dot Man), Jai Courtney (Geogr Harkness/Captain Boomerang), Pete Davidson (Richard Hertz/Blackguard), Alicia Brag (Sol Soria), Michael Roker (Brian Durlin/Savant), Nathan Fillian (Floyd Belkin/TDK), Sean Gunn (John Munro/Weasel), Storm Reid (Tyla), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher 2), Steve Agee (John Economos and King Shark), Jaoquin Cosío (Mateo Suárez), Juan Diego Botto (Silvio Luno), Flula Borg (Javelin), Tinashe Kajese (Flo Crawley), Jennifer Holland (Amelia Harcourt), and Mayling Ng (Mongal).

Taika Waititi and Julio Ruiz also have yet undisclosed roles.

Theory - Starro The Conquerer

The footage from the film shown at DC Fandome seemed to make a popular theory more of a certainty and reveal the antagonist of the film, Starro the Conquerer.

There are two shots which seem to show starfish matching Starro's color profile on the faces of people, and a shot which sees Polka-Dot Man attacking something massive. Taika Waititi could even be the voice of the big giant starfish-esque villain. It is a theory with evidence and seems to match everything fans know about the movie thus far.
