The Simpsons Movie had a lot of pressure on it, considering the popularity of the show, and for the most part, it did a good job. It tried to bring the same style of humor that the series has done, however, just like the show, there are certain parts of the movie that may have been deemed appropriate at the time, but are no longer seen that way.

There are many jokes throughout the series that simply haven't aged well, and that is the case with the movie as well. There are specific scenes or quotes that won't get a laugh on repeat viewing, and will instead have audiences cringing as they watch. Thankfully, there's plenty of jokes that more than hold up as well, and that balances it out, ensuring the movie is still funny to watch.

Haven't Aged Well: An Inappropriate Pray

The Simpsons Movie Homer rolls Abe around in church

Early on in the movie, The Simpsons family is shown at church, which is where Grampa Simpson goes on his big rant. However, at the start, Reverend Lovejoy calls on everyone, saying he wants their help and to no surprise, Ned Flanders is the first one to put his hand up.

He says that he needs to confess something, and this is where Homer ends up bringing in a poor joke. He can be quietly heard praying that Ned's confession will be him being gay. It's something that doesn't hold up, as jokes about sexuality are never funny, and it doesn't make Homer look like the hero character he should be.

Still Hold Up: Homer In The Cinema

Itchy and Scratchy in the moon planting an American flag

The movie kicks off with a great joke that thankfully still holds up to this day, with the wink and fourth-wall-breaking moment working well. The movie starts with The Simpsons in the cinema, watching an Itchy & Scratchy movie.

Homer stands up and jokes about how he could be watching this at home for free, which is obviously a nod to the fact that people could've done the same with this movie. He tells everyone they're stupid and it leads to a solid joke to start things up.

Haven't Aged Well: Medicine Woman

Medicine Woman in The Simpsons Movie

Another joke that hasn't held up is the physical comedy that comes with the character, Medicine Woman. She is known by Homer as 'Boob Lady,' and from that nickname, it is clear what type of comedy that the movie tries to push with her.

The size of her boobs is something that Homer points out plenty of times, and it is something that ends up being used to point out the direction that Homer should be walking as they sway in the wind. It's objectifying and isn't a good look for the movie at all.

Still Hold Up: The Animals Get An R Rated Viewing

Homer and Marge kiss with animals watching

One scene that absolutely still holds up focuses on Homer and Marge when they are alone in the cabin together. It's clear they want to get romantic, and the writers cleverly play on the childlike animated movies, with animals randomly appearing as they undress the two of them.

It's meant to be a sweet scene like a classic family-friendly animation movie, until Homer and Marge head into the bed. While it's not seen, it is obvious what is happening, and seeing the animals' horrified reactions is a hilarious joke that the adults will appreciate.

Haven't Aged Well: A Paraplegearino

Homer and Bart on the roof in The Simpsons Movie

Ned Flanders is always a worrier, and that often leads to some funny moments, but when he is concerned about Bart and Homer's behavior on the roof in this movie, it leads to an out-of-taste comment. Bart is hanging onto the gutters when Homer begins to shake it, with Ned panicking that Bart could fall to the floor.

The joke is supposed to be in the fact that Bart and Homer don't care, but when Ned questions if Bart falls that he could become a "paraplegearino" it is a joke that just doesn't land and feels off.

Still Hold Up: Green Day's Appearance

Green Day Simpsons Movie

Green Day is shown within this movie, playing a concert for Springfield at the start, and everything about their appearance is funny. The group singing the classic Simpsons theme song is great, with the lyrics on repeat on the floor camera being a hilarious moment.

They mock themselves for their notoriously long concerts, and when the Springfield citizens turn on them for wanting to talk about the environment, they get to have a funny nod to Titanic as well, which still holds up.

Haven't Aged Well: Ralph Likes Men

Ralph Wiggum "I Like Men Now" scene in The Simpsons Movie

One of the most memorable scenes from The Simpsons Movie is when Bart accepts a dare from his father and skates from his house to Krusty Burger. It is a great scene overall and sees some funny moments take place with his dignity being smartly covered in different ways.

This is a funny moment until Bart skates past Ralph Wiggum, who proclaims that he likes men now after seeing him naked. It's yet another joke about sexuality that hasn't aged well and actually hurts the movie more than anything.

Still Hold Up: Spider-Pig

Homer Simpson with Spider-Pig in The Simpsons Movie

One of the funniest parts of The Simpsons Movie at the time was the pig that Homer decides to take home with him. There's a lot of funny moments with the character, from making him do impressions of himself and Marge to how he climbs around the roof with him.

However, it is when Homer names the pig after different movie characters that really makes for a lot of fun. Firstly, there is Spider-Pig, and then he turns into Harry Plopper, both of which remain hilarious moments.

Haven't Aged Well: Code Black

The Simpsons Movie Code Black Scene

Out of all the jokes in the movie, the one that really hasn't held up takes place when Code Black is announced in regards to the lake. It is determined nobody can dump anything in the water, and the law is named Code Black, which leads to a terrible comment from Lenny.

He responds by saying that is the worst of all the colors, and then Carl is shown next to him, where Lenny states that he means no offense as Carl says people say it all the time. While Lenny claiming he doesn't mean offense is obviously done to cover their backs, it is a clear attempt at making racism a joke, and it's something that doesn't age well at all.

Still Hold Up: "Throw The Goddam Bomb"

Marge yells at Homer and Bart in The Simpsons Movie

At the end of the movie, Bart and Homer reconcile in a moment that is supposed to be sweet and tender. However, they forget while they're talking to each other that they are actually riding up the dome to throw the bomb out, or else they'll all die.

This leads to Marge breaking the moment up by screaming "Somebody throw the goddamn bomb," which is a hilarious line in the tense moment that breaks it all up and reminds them of the task at hand.
