All of the characters in The Rookie add to the series in a different way. Some are featured more heavily on the streets, and others lead their squad from inside the precinct. There are rookies, training officers, detectives, undercover officers, and sergeants, who are all a part of the main cast. The wide variety of positions within the LAPD gives everyone an opportunity to shine.

Unlike other series on television, the majority of the ensemble is beloved by viewers. Aside from the villains who come and go, there are not many people who are outright hated. But fans definitely have their favorites, and it's made clear by the buzz surrounding them which characters they love the most.

Talia Bishop

Talia Bishop in uniform.

Talia was a solid addition to the cast and fans quickly grew fond of her. She was strong, independent, and willing to do anything to reach her dreams. Talia was also calm and calculating, and she was a steady presence in the face of danger. However, her character's exit didn't have too much of an effect on the show's overall quality. If anything, the show got better because of the training officer who took her place. Talia wasn't disliked, but she also wasn't a standout.

Wesley Evers

Wesley Evers wearing a suit.

Wesley was added to the main cast of The Rookie in season 3 and viewers couldn't be happier. His main purpose was, originally, to be a love interest for Angela, but he's extended far beyond that. Wesley's role as a defense attorney gives the series a way to showcase a different point of view when it comes to law enforcement. He's all about accountability, and Wesley doesn't want any citizen to be taken advantage of by a police officer. If he continues to get a good amount of screentime, he could easily become a fan-favorite character.

Wade Grey

Wade Grey.

Sergeant Grey is beloved because he's tough and fair. He's not quite as popular as everyone else in the show, but that has little to do with his character and more to do with what an incredible cast The Rookie has.

Unlike the rest of the squad, the show doesn't spend as much time exploring Grey's internal conflicts. He's always there to lend a helping hand, but he's not featured as heavily as the rest of the characters. It's because of this that fans aren't attached to him as much as they are to others.

Zoe Andersen

Zoe Andersen.

Captain Andersen was killed in the show's first season, but she was an unforgettable character who continues to resonate with fans. Andersen was a woman in a position of power who managed the entire police precinct. She didn't rule with an iron fist and instead showed kindness and compassion to the officers in her charge. However, Andersen pushed all the characters to become better cops and took all infractions seriously. No one dared to go against her orders, but they also felt like they could come to her with important issues.

John Nolan

John Nolan looking concerned in The Rookie.

He may be the protagonist, but Nolan isn't the most popular character among fans. He is widely loved because he's a genuinely selfless person, but it's often difficult to buy into his character. Nolan is miraculously good at everything, and fans get a bit annoyed when the show paints him as the best cop in the world, despite being a rookie in his first year of training. There's no situation he can't get himself out of, and while he is an intuitive character, it's a bit ridiculous that he shows up those who have been on the job for decades. Television does require a certain suspension of disbelief, but the amount required here can get exhausting.

Nyla Harper

Nyla Harper.

Harper wasn't easy to like when she was first introduced to the show. Fans had become used to Talia's training methods, so it took some adjusting. As the second season went on, it was revealed that Harper was much more than she seemed.

Harper's complexity makes her one of the most interesting characters in The Rookie and her backstory as an undercover officer introduced a new storyline. Harper is all about supporting other women and teaching them how to empower themselves. Her arrival took a good show and made it a great one.

Jackson West

Jackson West in uniform.

It's impossible to dislike Jackson because he rarely does anything wrong. He's much more than the comedic relief, but he does provide a lot of opportunities for laughs. Jackson is the kind of friend who always offers a shoulder to cry on. He's willing to stand up and do what's right, even when it's not easy such as when he let himself get brutally beaten in order to expose a racist cop on the force. His courage is admirable and he believes his main purpose in life is to help others.

Angela Lopez

Angela looking at Wesley in The Rookie.

No matter what situation she's in, Angela will find a way to thrive. She's served in multiple different divisions in the department, and even once as a bodyguard. Angela gets along well with everyone, and she's not afraid to call people out when need be. If her friends are in distress, she'll immediately jump into action. Angela doesn't beat around the bush, which is a quality that everyone can appreciate. Because of how well-rounded her character is, Angela could singlehandedly carry the show if she had to.

Tim Bradford

Tim Bradford.

Tim definitely isn't the most likable character when it comes to how those in the show perceive him. But, regardless, he quickly stole the hearts of viewers and became a fan-favorite. Tim sticks out because of how unique he is, and it's rare to find others like him on television. Tim comes off as cold and detached, and it was easy to despise him when he made his first appearance. However, the series spends a lot of time unraveling all of his layers, and there's so much to discover beneath the exterior he puts up. Tim is a man with a tragic past and a huge heart, and all it takes is some time to gain his trust.

Lucy Chen

Lucy Chen.

Lucy's caring, optimistic, and a fighter until the end. She's been through a world of hurt, both physically and emotionally, but she doesn't let anyone keep her down. Lucy takes her life into her own hands and has no problem fending for herself. She doesn't let her fear hold her back and she perseveres in the name of justice. Lucy's bubbly personality can boost the mood of everyone around her, as well as those watching her onscreen. She continues to surprise viewers with her intelligence, and Lucy is proof that a person can be kind, without letting others take advantage of them.
