With The Rise of Skywalker releasing this winter, fans are eager to see John Boyega’s Finn get a good piece of the action in the final movie of the sequel trilogy. He was prominent in The Force Awakens but basically marginalized by director Rian Johnson in the sequel, The Last Jedi, as he was cast to the sidelines despite being a major character in the previous installment.

Not only do fans not know where Finn's story will go but the trailers for his next cinematic appearance are also vague at best, meaning Star Wars fans really don’t know what to expect this Christmas. Typically, many theories are starting to arise. So with that in mind we now take a look at 10 involving Finn ahead of the blockbuster’s release at the end of the year.

He’ll Be Confident

In both of the newest Star Wars sequels, Finn’s mood seems to change a lot. He jump from confident and assured to nervous and panicky, but fans believe he could stay cocksure because of the previous film's events.

In The Last Jedi, Finn defeated the fierce Captain Phasma during an epic duel on Snoke’s Star Destroyer. Because of that, we feel he’ll have a spring in his step. He and Phasma loathed each other and it’s he who was able to have the last laugh, beating her down and watching her body tumble into fire.

He’ll Stick With The Gang - And Poe In Particular

One of the biggest complaints of The Last Jedi was Rian Johnson’s decision to send the heroes of the saga on separate missions. Unfortunately, this meant Finn spent most of the movie with Rose on Canto Bight, missing out on moments with love interests Rey and close friend Poe Damaron.

But it seems like Finn will be sticking with the gang. Promotional shots and clips have shown him with Rey and new character Jannah, and it’s feasible that JJ Abrams will opt to keep the heroes together rather than splitting them up in order to avoid more fan backlash.

Star Wars 9 Finn and Jannah

Star Wars fans are obsessed with family and characters' potential familial connections. With Finn having been taken by the First Order as a child, fans have theorized that he may be the brother of new character Jannah (Naomi Ackie).

There have been claims that suggest a young Finn was taken by the First Order but Jannah escaped. Promotional shots have showed them together and, given Finn’s already got something going on with Rey and Rose, surely they can’t throw another love interest in there? If not, then it’s possible family will be the route they choose.

Lando Calrissian in The Rise of Skywalker.

One of the biggest positives for The Rise of Skywalker ahead of its release is the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. Chronologically, the character was last seen celebrating the fall of the Empire at the end of Return of the Jedi and we can’t wait to find out what his comeback means for the rest of the characters in the saga.

Predictably, there’s been some chatter he may be Finn’s father. The same has been suggested for Jannah, so what if he’s related to both? That certainly can’t be ruled out with Finn’s backstory so intriguing.

He’ll Recruit Stormtroopers

This one may be a bit random, but Finn could end up recruiting some of his old Stormtrooper pals. The First Order is in chaos when Palpatine returns and that could lead to several members of their army jumping ship.

A deleted scene from The Last Jedi showed that Finn still has some sway over his old buddies. He tells four First Order troopers about Captain Phasma’s treachery on Starkiller Base and they were about to turn on their commanding officer before she guns them down. It is, therefore, possible that Finn may test the waters in the next movie.

Finn Will Settle Down With Rose

Rose Tico was a divisive character from The Last Jedi, as not everyone was sold on this new Resistance trooper. Previously, it was established that she was in love with Finn, with the duo exchanging a kiss after she rescues John Boyega’s character from killing himself and damaging the First Order’s chances of getting to them.

Star Wars has always had love stories: there was Han Solo and Leia Organa in the original trilogy, then Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala in the prequels. Consequently, it’s possible that Finn and Rose may continue their romance in The Rise of Skywalker.

Finn Will Choose Rey

While Rose seems to love Finn, we can’t exactly say the feeling is mutual. He looked shocked when she kissed him and so far, all signs have pointed to him wanting a romantic relationship with Rey.

Finn seemed to fall for the Jedi Knight almost immediately in The Force Awakens, traveling with her on board the Millennium Falcon and attempting to rescue her on Starkiller Base. He even fights Kylo Ren to protect her, which alone suggests he harbors deep feelings for her. Whether or not he gets to say them, and get what he wants, remains to be seen.

Finn Will Fight Kylo Ren Again

Much hype has been made about Kylo Ren fighting Rey again in The Rise of Skywalker, with promotional footage showing them going head to head on what appears to be the remains of the second Death Star. But Finn could end up having a showdown with the Supreme Leader instead.

They’ve already fought once, with Kylo nearly murdering the former Stormtrooper during a duel on Starkiller Base. And with Finn killing Captain Phasma, Ben Solo may be out for revenge. Also, Finn himself may feel confident enough to tackle the Jedi after defeating Phasma himself during The Last Jedi.

He Leads The Fight

There’s a scene from the D23 footage that shows hundreds of imperial Star Destroyers floating above the sky while lightning flashes ominously in the background. But, just before this, there’s a clip that shows Resistance fighters in the air with the Millennium Falcon possibly among them.

Given other footage shows Finn in the cockpit alongside Jannah, it’s possible he may lead the fight against the enemy. His stock among his fellow Resistance members must be at an all time high and he now seems a character who would be able to shoulder the responsibility of such a difficult task.

He Will Die

With this being the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, the stakes are extremely high. When that happens, it usually means one of the heroes of the saga will be killed off. Could it be Finn?

Disney is unlikely to have Rey meet her end given she’s the talisman and focal point of the sequel trilogy. They’ve already choked at killing Poe Damaron, who has proven to be extremely popular, and even stopped Finn from killing himself in a suicide attack. However, that could be foreshadowing of the former Stormtrooper dying in The Rise of Skywalker.
