Leavin' Been Comin' (For a Long, Long Time) - 8.1
In this episode, Beau kicks Rooster out when he's about to start his new job. In the heat of the argument between Rooster and Beau, Beau wants Rooster to be left out of his share of the ranch.
However, Maggie and Beau can't sign their divorce papers until they agree upon who gets the ranch after them. Obviously, Maggie wants both of the boys to inherit it. This episode is pretty dramatic, actually, and it makes for a pretty deep and interesting episode, taking the lowest spot of the top 10.
My Next Thirty Years - 8.1
Colt reacts to Heather's pregnancy with quite the shock anyone would have given the situation. To be honest, this isn't super surprising. This is also the extremely cringe-inducing Christmas episode, where Abby's, Heather's, and Colt's respective families all end up at church together. It's as awkward as anyone would expect it to be.
This happens almost immediately after Colt finds about Heather's (and his) baby. Lots of crazy, secretive, and extremely awkward things go down in this episode, but its dramatic flair had us all loving it.
Things Change - 8.1
This episode comes right after the Christmas special, and things don't exactly get any better for Colt. For starters, Mary shoots up his truck. Also, he finally tells Abby about Heather's pregnancy, and she storms out pretty angrily. Talk about bad luck.
Things aren't looking up for Colt at this point in the series, but the more dramatic episodes all seem to be scoring higher on IMDb, so, at least they're doing well. And let's face it: We enjoyed the hell out of them.
Can't Really Be Gone - 8.1
This episode is the last of the trio that holds a pretty decent score of 8.1 on IMDb. In this episode, Colt struggles to balance Heather and his obligations to her along with his relationship with Abby. Who would've thought, right?
Well, it's pretty difficult, and it's safe to say that having a baby momma isn't super helpful in maintaining a serious relationship. These two women are both bombshells, and Colt definitely has his hands full dealing with both of them at the same time.
The Cowboy Rides Away - 8.2
Shockingly, this episode centers around another disagreement between Beau and the boys. Beau, on the other hand, surprisingly tries to make amends with his sons, but they're not exactly having any of it. Can't saw we don't blame them.
If that conflict wasn't enough, Rooster drives a wedge between him and Colt when he tells him about his job offer to work on another farm. Things are getting even more sticky at the ranch and everyone seems to have an ax to grind. But hey, at least it's entertaining to watch.
If Tomorrow Never Comes - 8.2
In the finale of part 4, Colt and Rooster hang around the Peterson ranch and size it up. It's at this point in the series where that big engineering company is trying to build a pipeline under the ranch. So, naturally, Rooster takes a liking to Jen, the engineer assigned to their case.
And hey, he finally convinces her to go on a date! Clearly, this episode has all the makings of classic Rooster and Colt goodness, and we loved every second of it.
There Goes My Life - 8.3
In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, Heather sets up Rooster with her sister. This is ironic, of course, because Rooster actually ends up dating her mother. Of course, this makes for a really hilarious and awkward episode.
On the other side of the ranch, Maggie and Beau endure marriage counselling and lay everything out on the table. This relatable episode (well, except for the dating the mom part... hopefully), is very quirky and entertaining, landing it a solid 8.3.
Tie Our Love (In a Double Knot) - 8.3
This has to be the most heart warming episode of the entire series. When the citizens are all held up together after forest fires burn through Colorado, Abby goes missing. Colt and her father set out to look for her, eventually (spoiler) becoming successful.
However, not everything is great for Rooster when Heather warns him about Mary's ex-boyfriend, Nick. After all the drama and intensity, Colt and Abby join together for the sweetest and simplest marriage celebration we've ever seen. This episode definitely deserves its 8.3.
Down This Road - 8.4
In the part 1 finale, Beau holds out on selling his cattle. However, money is becoming super tight, and the ranch doesn't even have electricity. Colt is bummed out that Abby is engaged, and this doesn't sit well with Heather. For Rooster, things aren't much better when he asks Mary to date him more "maturely."
Things get a bit suspenseful, though, when we find out that Maggie has fled the town, and that Abby actually has doubts about marrying Kenny. This cliffhanger definitely had us on the edge of our seats, and we aren't mad about giving it an 8.4.
Merry Christmas (Wherever You Are) - 8.6
In another finale, Beau and Maggie finalize their divorce. In fact, this is the cute episode where Beau and Joanne exchange hats for Christmas. For Colt, he gives Beau a pair of Ugg boots (which is still one of our favorite moments of the show), before proposing to Abby. Things don't go as planned for Colt when he finds Heather waiting outside the ranch for him.
This episode had humor, depth, and a whole lot of twists and turns, and we definitely agree that this roller-coaster deserves the top slot on this list with a whopping 8.6.
