Square Enix may not have pulled out many surprises as part of its E3 2018 press conference, but at the very least the company was able to reveal something entirely new in The Quiet Man. All in all, it proved to be more content from games already showcased by the publisher, with an intriguing gameplay trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider one of the highlights alongside a focus on Kingdom Hearts 3.

However, there were some noticeable absences in the Square Enix presentation as a whole. Some fans were hoping that more would be shared of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, but the title did not make an appearance. Some are still hoping that it will appear as part of another conference this year, although the confirmation that the game may not see release until 2023 might mean such a focus is a way off yet.

At the very least, however, Square Enix was able to showcase something entirely new to those watching, in the form of The Quiet Man. As it stands, it's a new property for the publisher, but apart from that things are kept very mysterious. The trailer for the game can be seen above.

The Quiet Man game

In the trailer, one person faces off against two others in an alleyway, but the motive behind the attack is kept from the viewer. What is interesting, however, is that the trailer blends between live action footage and more traditional computer graphics. Meanwhile, hints that the character is deaf certainly make the prospect of The Quiet Man intriguing.

The description of the game's trailer also reveals a little more information. "The Quiet Man delivers an immersive story driven cinematic action experience seamlessly blending high-production live action, realistic CG and pulse-pounding action gameplay," states the trailer description. What's more, the description concludes by suggesting that the game can be completed in one sitting.

As such, it looks likely that The Quiet Man is going to be a very different beast from some of the huge RPGs for which Square Enix is known. At the minute, there's very little to go off as to how the game will operate and the level of interactivity that players will have, but Square Enix promises that more information will come in August. Hopefully, this will prove to be an intriguing and unique way to explore storytelling and action in video games.
