The Quarry is another horror game by Supermassive Games that has fans shaking with its exciting jump scares and spell-binding twists and turns. It's a perfect summer slasher that not only has creepy monsters but also interesting camp counselors that players are assigned to control. Just like its predecessor, Until Dawnthese characters all have an array of personalities, looks, and brains.

When it comes to intelligence in The Quarry, the characters have to be quick on their feet, collected, and most of all ready to make important decisions. While some are able to use their brains to survive (or survive a little longer), others' lack of forethought leads them to early graves.

Max

Max looking suspicious in The Quarry.

Max is one of the first counselors players see in the prologue, and he is also one of the first that is attacked. When he is introduced, he comes off as the goofy boyfriend that is a bit incompetent. However, his interactions with Laura show that he is the more docile one of the romantic pair. He doesn't have a lot of agency in the game, and when him and Laura are stuck in the jail cells, he's not the one who takes the lead at all.

He's a friendly guy, but he focuses a bit too much on what other people think about him. This is especially shown when Laura and he get lost when he declines to ask for directions to the campsite. With this fatal flaw, he is not someone that is capable of thinking ahead.

Jacob

Jacob wears a backwards cap in The Quarry

Jacob has redeeming qualities, but he's also the definition of desperate. He had his heart broken by another counselor at Hackett, and this led to him ruining the only way of transportation for the counselors to go home for the summer. Not only was this a bad decision on his part, but it also made him an unlikeable character for a lot of players.

He does not have the best common sense when it comes to making good choices and his overall plan to get back with his ex doomed his friends to almost-certain death. He may be quick on his feet because of his athletic build, but his lack of sense is definitely his Achilles heel.

Abigail

Abigail screams in horror in The Quarry

Abigail is a shy sweet girl that just wants to draw her life away. Her kind nature makes her a person that bonds well with anyone, and she is the most empathetic counselor of the group. She does not get a lot of limelight in the game, but when she does, she is usually connecting dots to the mysteries throughout the game.

With her shyness comes the unfortunate flaw of being indecisive and a bit too emotional when she's faced with stressful situations. Her running off into the woods after seeing one of her friends kiss her crush was not the best decision, and it led to Nick encountering the werewolf that attacked him. Her reaction was valid, but it was still a dangerous one in the long run.

Nick

How to Make Everyone Die in The Quarry Nick Changing

Nick is the sweetest guy among the teenagers and has a nerdy personality that makes him easy to like, especially to Abigail. When he saves Abigail from the "scary" hog they come across, it just shows how selfless he is when it comes to the people he cares about. It's is proven again when he is attacked by a werewolf while trying to keep Abigail safe.

Unfortunately, when he is infected by Caleb, one of the many werewolves in the woods, his wits go out the window with his out-of-control, violent urges. This leads to him getting less time to shine in the game's story and making him one of the easiest characters to save.

Dylan

Dylan looking serious in The Quarry.

This jokester counselor is the one who keeps the mood light when they're being hunted by monsters all night. During a crisis he can be cowardly, but when it comes to unraveling the unknown events happening through the night he is the man for it.

He's not afraid to be suspicious and doesn't think that the supernatural is too far fetched to be the cause of all the weird incidents. His knowledge about all things spooky even helps him make one of the best decisions in the game when he advises Ryan to cut off his hand after being infected.

Ryan

A close-up of Ryan in The Quarry

Ryan seems to be the broody quiet counselor when he is first introduced, but as the game goes on, his true colors as a hero start to show. Chris Hackett may not be a totally innocent during this situation, but him confiding in Ryan to convince the counselors to stay in the lodge wasn't done for no reason. Ryan was obviously someone he thought was capable and trustworthy.

He is the most close-minded when it comes to believing in the spooky things going on around the camp, but after he has seen what's going on, he is quick to take action. His willingness to go with Laura after not trusting her at first shows he wants to do anything to protect his fellow comrades.

Emma

Emma looks unsure in The Quarry.

This influencer is more than meets the eye when players are finally able to control her in the middle of the story. She knows her own worth when it comes to what she wants and isn't afraid to speak her mind. This may unsettle some players, but it just goes to show how independent she is.

If she is left alone by Jacob, the player gets the opportunity to help her escape Max when he is a werewolf. Her ability to take care of herself on this island by herself just goes to show that she has what it takes to survive. Even acts like her accidentally spraying Dylan with air freshener showed she would do anything it takes to stay alive.

Kaitlynn

Kaitlyn looking serious in The Quarry.

Kaitlynn, who is played by talented Brenda Song, is a girl of many tricks. She knows her way around guns and cars and is the smartest among the campers. She doesn't hesitate to take action and assumes the leader role many times when half of the group is split up. She may be bit stern when it comes to her friends, but this is just because she cares for them.

Her only weakness is her habit of sometimes not considering herself. Early in the game, it is said by Jacob that she has not confessed to her crush, Ryan, yet. This not only reveals her own self esteem issues, but it also shows the players that when it comes to her own needs and wants it can be an afterthought, leading to her having the most possible deaths out of all the counselors.

Laura

The Quarry's Laura wearing a baseball cap and looking out into the distance with a neutral expression.

Players are introduced to Laura at the same time as Max, and she is the more dominant one in the relationship. T his personality trait carries outside the relationship as she gets things done constantly throughout the game. Her spirit isn't broken when she is locked alongside her werewolf boyfriend in a jail cell for two months, and she is determined to find out what the Curse of Silas is.

Laura may be a bit rash when it comes to her gun, but it's something players can understand given the werewolves at every turn. Waiting around and doing nothing is not something Laura is fond of, and, if played right, she can solve the curse with the help of the cop that kept her and Max captive.
