When Marvel and Netlfix looked to kick off the Hell's Kitchen corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they figured that Daredevil would be a great, grounded way to start the street level stakes. The first season pitted Matt Murdock and his superhero persona against a rising Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), who was well on his way to becoming the Kingpin. Since his debut, fans have been looking for every chance possible to see him return. Marvel was able to surprise a number of viewers with Fisk making an appearance in back half of season 2 of Daredevil and crossed paths with fellow newcomer Frank Castle.
Castle was such a breakout that Netflix gave Jon Bernthal a chance to lead his own series, The Punisher, which is set for release later this year. Much of the plot details around the show have remained a mystery, which had led some to hope that Kingpin could make a triumphant return onto the screen and into Castle's life. That, however, will not be happening.
D'Onofrio responded to a fan on Twitter asking if there was any chance that Kingpin could cross paths with Frank Castle in his solo series, but the answer is not what fans were hoping for. His reply, just as they've been for many other questions about his next appearance, is a no.
Nope not a chance. No plans. Zero https://t.co/MC5oqdKekk

This is a clear response for D'Onofrio and continues his typical response now when asked if Kingpin will appear in an upcoming Netflix project. While he has confirmed that Kingpin will return at some point in the future, he has so far crossed off The Defenders and now The Punisher as possibilities, as well as Spider-Man: Homecoming and frankly all MCU movies for that matter.
If there was going to be a non-Daredevil season for Kingpin to appear in, having him make an appearance in Punisher would have made a lot of sense. He was ultimately the one to convince Castle to throw his trial and led to a violent confrontation between the two in jail before Castle ultimately escaped. After Castle murdered many of Kingpin's henchmen in jail, him hiring outside help to track down Punisher could have been one of a number story possibilites to bring him into the fold.advertising
That said, the best and most likely chance fans have of seeing Kingpin next should be Daredevil season 3 - which should come out sometime in 2018. This could be the time for Kingpin to finally make his break out of cell-block D and look to get revenge on Murdock and Daredevil. As great as it would've been to see Kingpin and Punisher together on screen again, it could completely take away from the rest of the season's story, so any true judgement on whether or not this is the right call will have to wait until after the series debuts.
Daredevil Seasons 1 & 2, Jessica Jones Season 1, and Luke Cage Season 1 are available now on Netflix. Iron Fist Season 1 arrives on March 17. The Defenders will debut sometime this summer with The Punisher following later in the year. Premiere dates for the newest seasons of Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage have not yet been announced.
