The Planet Crafter is a new space survival open-world game that tasks players with terraforming a planet to make it habitable for human life. The game, created by an indie developer called Miju Games, is similar to Subnautica in that players will be able to explore the ecosystem of a single planet as they survive, collect, and build new technology to establish a hospitable biosphere. While The Planet Crafter is only available in its early access stage at the moment, the final version of the game will feature a story revolving around the planet filled with explorable secrets.

As players continue to build new structures on the planet's frontier, one thing they won't have to worry about is any sort of combat system on or off-planet. Though it challenges some of the features commonly associated with an open-world survival game, The Planet Crafter solely focuses on creating a liveable environment on an otherwise barren planet. The game still remains in early access, however, but the developer has plans for the final product to be a relaxing 30+ hour experience of planet terraforming and exploration, according to a Miju Games news release.

Although terraformers won't have to worry about other signs of life challenging their presence, they will need to concern themselves with generating a constant supply of food, water, and oxygen. Each of these items has its own "health bar" that slowly depletes as time goes on, though water and oxygen deplete faster than food. Terraformers will have craft drinkable water, food growers, and oxygen canisters in order to ensure they have a steady supply of all needed materials. Though other lifeforms aren't a concern, there is still the possibility of death in the game from a number of sources in The Planet Crafter.

How To Survive In The Planet Crafter

The Planet Crafter has four difficulties for players to choose from, but in all difficulties, terraformers will instantly die if the oxygen bar completely drains. Depending on the difficulty, this can either force players to lose their gear and reclaim it from their death site, they'll lose their gear altogether, or the save file will be wiped completely. Fortunately, the heads-up display contains different tasks that terraformers can follow along with to ensure they have what they need to get started, but players should start on either the "Relaxing" or "Standard" difficulties to get started.

As players build structures for survivalThe Planet Crafter will likely feel more simplistic than other games in the genre, and that is intentional. Miju Games has explicitly stated that their focus for releasing version 1.0, the final release, will contain a map that is at least 50% larger, a vehicle for traveling, a completed story arc, more environmental threats, and early life creatures such as insect, fish, and amphibians. Additionally, their goal is to add new technology, special events, and planetary secrets with each update as the game continues to grow from the early development stage.
