If there’s one television couple that many fans think of as soulmates, it’s Jim and Pam from The Office. As one of the most popular romantic pairings from any popular tv show, many fans have fallen for their love story and seen them as couple goals.

While Jim and Pam might have some highly romantic moments that prove they are soulmates, they also have some times where they weren’t very good together at all. There were times they seemed meant to be as well as scenes that left some fans feeling they should break up.

Awful Together: They weren’t honest about their feelings

When Jim and Pam first get to be friends, Pam is technically engaged to Roy. Despite this, they become really close friends and often flirt, too. It’s clear that Jim at least knows he has feelings for Pam, but Pam seems to try to remain clueless.

They both seem to have some indication that they have crushes on each other, but it takes both of them a long while to do anything about this.

Soulmates: Because they always joked around together

One of the most endearing things about Jim and Pam was that they loved to have fun together and joke around. They were always laughing and teasing and often worked together to pull pranks on Dwight.

It’s clear by how much joy they had just worked together that they wouldn’t get bored of each other and could make even mundane things a good time.

Awful Together: Pam told Jim she didn’t want to be with him

At the end of the casino night episode, Jim confesses his feelings for Pam. While Pam was also invested in kissing Jim and admitted that she had also wanted to kiss him for a long time, she told Jim she was still going to marry Roy.

While Pam clearly still had a lot of her own issues to work out, this moment was a crushing blow for Jim and for their relationship. At this moment, it seemed like maybe the relationship wasn’t good for either of them.

Soulmates: They never really got over one another

Throughout the series, Jim and Pam have various other partners. Jim especially dates other women while Pam is engaged to Roy and trying to figure out how she feels about Jim.

However, despite dating other people and not getting the timing right for a long time, they both clearly never stop caring about one another, and this shows that they were meant to be.

Awful Together: Jim kissed Pam without asking

While many fans consider the kiss at the end of season two to be a romantic moment, it’s also a bit outdated. Luckily, Pam did want to kiss Jim, but the fact that he went in for the kiss without asking, while knowing she was engaged to someone else, is kind of troublesome from a 2020 perspective.

It also lays the groundwork for some future issues between the two of them.

Soulmates: The teapot

Perhaps one of the most endearing moments between Jim and Pam is when Jim gives Pam the teapot filled with inside jokes for the White Elephant party.

While he doesn’t give Pam the note he wrote to her that night, in the final season, he finally lets her read it. The entire situation with the teapot is very real and sweet, and it shows the strong feelings Jim has always had for Pam.

Awful Together: Jim didn’t stand up for Pam enough

Pam has to deal with a lot of harassment from work especially from Michael but also from her other male co-workers. Despite people like Kevin commenting inappropriate and harassing things about her breasts and Michael often hitting on her, Jim never really says much about it.

This makes it seem like he didn’t really care that much or just thought it wasn’t that big of a deal. And given how much he supposedly cared about Pam, he should have done more.

Soulmates: When they had the perfect wedding

Jim and Pam's wedding in The Office

The wedding episodes for Jim and Pam are some of the most romantic of the entire series. While not everything goes according to plan for them, things end up being perfect anyway.

When they leave together to get married under Niagara Falls, it shows that they can make anything work and be special just by being together, and it says a lot about how they will face future challenges as a couple.

Awful Together: Jim did things without making sure Pam was on board

The main reason why Jim and Pam were sometimes awful together is because Jim made some huge decisions without Pam. As spouses, making decisions about buying a home, moving, and career changes should be discussed with one another.

But, instead, Jim made big life decisions without Pam consent and this made it seem like he didn't’ see her as an equal.

Soulmates: When Pam sold their house

On the flip side of this, when Jim decides to give up on his career goals for a time, he’s making the right decision for their family. Then, when Pam turns the tables and sells their house in surprise, it’s her both stepping up and saying she’s an equal in the relationship as well as supporting Jim in his dreams.

It’s a great finale for their relationship on the show.
