The news that Steve Carrell and John Krasinski are to work together once again in the movie If, will be a welcome treat to fans of The Office. Although it will be exciting to see the pair on screen once more in something new, their performances in the much-loved mockumentary won't be forgotten. As a cast, the characters all had their unique personalities, each contributing to the comedy and building believable relationships throughout.

However, whilst the characters all had their pro-points and were brilliant for audiences to enjoy, there are also reasons a few of them wouldn't have stayed at Dunder Mifflin for as long as they did, if at all. With questionable antics and eccentric pranks aplenty, Reddit users took to Reddit to explain which employees should have been fired and why.

Kelly

Kelly was the gossip girl of Dunder Mifflin. Her focus was never on work and when she wasn't thinking about fashion, her mind was set on making Ryan her man.

These traits alone are enough to let someone go from a company, but as Reddit user Ebz_gets_abs pointed out, "Kelly falsified reports against Jim and Dwight because they didn't go to her party." Kelly went to an extreme length because something didn't go her way, which, in the grand scheme of things, was pretty minimal. She was lucky Jim and Dwight didn't take further action.

Pam

Pam smiling while resting with her face in her hand in The Office

There may have been times when Pam was the biggest badass at Dunder Mifflin, but it's not gone unnoticed that she also had moments that should have put her place at the paper merchants up for questioning.

Redditor Technics3345 reminded fans that she "...created a position for herself and went to see a movie while on the clock," and "slapped her boss at work." These instances are definitely issues that aren't exactly acceptable, but they can be explained away. For example, Pam slapped Michael because of how he treated her mother. So while her actions aren't always ideal, it's sometimes good to know the backstory.

Toby

Toby growling at the camera in The Office

Poor Toby is downtrodden by Michael, simply because Michael believes his own job is to make the office fun, whilst Toby sets out to do the exact opposite. However, Toby is a soft man without ever wishing to cause any unwarranted offense.

Unfortunately, there is a moment that can be pinpointed as something Toby should be fired for. Reddit user No_Narwhal_5595 stated that he "...outed Oscar to Michael while Michael didn't know he was gay, so that whole episode's Toby's fault." As nice as Toby is, it's never right to force someone to reveal something when they're not ready. Oscar is also a nice person and didn't deserve to be betrayed.

Stanley

Stanley Hudson in a talking head on The Office

Stanley makes it known that he has no interest in his job, he doesn't enjoy being there and the only reason he turns up every day is because he needs to earn a living.

So perhaps it should come as no surprise that an employee with such little enthusiasm has been flagged as one that should have been fired. Redditor Houstonflooded believed Stanley should get fired for "...sleeping on the job." It's a valid observation, for the obvious fact that no job gets done when you're not awake. And although there are times where fans were all like Stanley at work, when combined with his lack of drive, it's a wonder he ever stayed at Dunder Mifflin.

Kevin

Kevin loses his shoes in The Office

As one of the most likable characters in The Office, Kevin Malone is a bit of a bumbling fool that everyone else tries to help along. He does have some strange ways, but ultimately there's not much to dislike about him.

However, Reddit user Rarecandy31 thinks Kevin would have been fired for "...sheer incompetence." As an accountant, his ability in the job isn't of a high standard and it comes across as being frustrating for the others in his department. His lack of competency is a reason he probably wouldn't have lasted in the company, but luckily for viewers, he was a longstanding character.

Jim

Jim holding a paper airplane looking at the camera on The Office

Jim quickly became a main focus for The Office after it was made apparent that he and Pam had a wonderful bond that was soon to flourish into a full-fledged relationship.

His constant pranks on Dwight have also been noted as a hilarious highlight of the show, but Reddit user SilkscreenSound put a different spin on the relentless japes by saying "Jim would have been fired for constant harassment to Dwight." In the context of the program, it's all very funny, but in the real world, there would more than likely have been consequences for Jim, especially as Dwight didn't find it amusing.

Michael

Michael Scott talking to the camera in The Office

There are plenty of times when fans rooted for Michael in The Office, even though he had a plethora of moments that were ridiculous (but still hilarious). Through his unbreakable need to be liked shone glimmers of a good person, proving he was just a little misunderstood.

However, Redditor Hungry-Class9806 provided a specific example of why Michael should have been fired by saying "Michael kidnapped the pizza boy..." Not only is it a sackable offense, but he'd also find himself dealing with the law. Somehow, Michael always manages to make it through.

Meredith

Meredith looking disappointed in The Office

Meredith is one very unique character, with some very unusual habits but she produces some of the biggest laughs for audiences and fans of the show.

But, as Reddit user sevn-elven wrote she was "sleeping' with suppliahs." Meredith was indeed trading physical acts for discounts from the company's suppliers, which everyone knows to be a workplace no-no. It's not that shocking to know that's how she carries out her work, simply because of her everyday personality. Still, there's no way she should've remained in her job.
