For nine seasons, we've seen the workers of Dunder Mifflin Scranton get through their day to day workload with a bit of fun. Thanks to Jim and Dwight's pranks on each other, Michael's love for entertainment, and monthly parties in the conference room, it's astounding those on The Office got any work done at all. But some of the pranks and jokes pulled resulted in some pretty serious lies. And these lies always got the person in some sort of trouble, making each episode better than the other.
But who was the biggest liar on the series? No matter how sweet and goodie-goodie a character may have seemed, everyone was capable of some serious lies on the show. Stanley lied about his multiple affairs, Gabe lied about being in a relationship with Justine, and even Dwight lied about secretly meeting with Jan to get Michael's job. But who's the biggest liar in the series? Let's take a look!
NELLIE LIED ABOUT HER JOB TITLE
Nellie was relatively new on The Office when she came on in the seventh season but she was a welcomed addition. As one of Jo's friends, Nellie was handed a job at Dunder Mifflin when her role in Floria blew up in her face. But instead of taking a sales job she decided to make up her own position.
With Andy away in Florida trying to win Erin back, Nellie literally took a seat in his chair and said she was the new acting manager. She had no credentials or paperwork saying so and yet she lied her way to the top.
KELLY LIED TO RYAN ABOUT BEING PREGNANT
Kelly Kapoor would do and say anything to get the attention of her lover Ryan Howard. Thanks to Jim, he's the one who told Ryan that Kelly had a crush on him and it was all downhill ever since. These two broke up and made up all the time, especially whenever it benefited Ryan.
But Kelly's biggest lie is when Ryan came back to Scranton and Kelly told him she was pregnant just to get him in her life again. And while Kelly wasn't always a main character on The Office, lying about a pregnancy is a pretty big lie to dish out.
ANDY LIED TO DAVID WALLACE WHEN HE WAS AT SEA
Andy Bernard may seem like a smarty pants who attended Cornell University and enjoys bowties but he's not always the most honest person at Dunder Mifflin. He lies immensely when he becomes acting manager of the branch when Michael leaves.
He lies about being at sea for three months, he lies about being in Florida, he lies about being gay (when he was with Jessica and Erin), and he lies about knowing anything about Jim's jury duty. But is he the biggest liar on the series? No.
OSCAR BROKE UP A MARRIAGE
Oscar was probably the most professional worker at Dunder Mifflin. As the second-acting department head (under Angela) of the accounting department, Oscar was probably the smartest in the office. To be honest, he deserved more of a role throughout the seasons. However, Oscar wasn't always the most truthful of people.
He lied about being sick to get out of work and more notably, he lied to Angela's face time and time again about her husband. The two were very involved with one another (to the point of saying they loved each other) and Oscar lied about the senator for months.
PAM LIES TO HERSELF
I know what you're thinking, why is Pam on this list? While Pam was an honest worker, she lied to herself every single day. She lied to herself about her feelings for Roy, she "convinced" herself she was only friends with Jim, she lied to Dwight for the sake of every prank she and Jim pulled.
She also lied to herself towards the end of the series when it came to her feelings for Brian. While fans were happy Pam found her voice after Beach Day, it took her far too long to be honest with herself.
RYAN WENT TO JAIL FOR HIS LIES
Ryan Howard started off as temp at Dunder Mifflin before becoming a junior sales rep. The only problem is he sucked at sales. But when Dunder Mifflin got rid of Jan and lost Jim as a potential cover for her position, Ryan was hired thanks to his MBA.
In his new position, he created a new website that was going to make sales much easier for their consumers. But when his website wasn't doing as well as he promised, he played around with the numbers and was arrested for fraud.
ANGELA LIED TO BOTH ANDY AND DWIGHT
Angela may seem like an uptight religious woman (and she is) but she's not all high and chaste as she comes off. She'll lie whenever it benefits her most, especially in her personal life. It's not known when she started her relationship with Dwight but she kept sleeping with him when she was engaged to Andy and when she was married to the Senator.
She also lied to Dwight about the paternity of their son and to the accounting department when she didn't deliver the tax forms on time. Lying about an affair and the father of her child are pretty big lies.
JIM LIED THROUGHOUT THE SERIES TO DWIGHT AND TO PAM
Many fans don't consider Jim a liar because his pranks on Dwight are so legendary but he lies much more than we think. He lies to Dwight about being a vampire, about being a secret member of the CIA, about being Asian... His lies never end. And as much as he loves Pam, he lies to her the most towards the end of the series.
He lies about taking the job with Athlead, he bought his childhood home without even talking to Pam about it, and he lies to the office for the sake of a joke. Jim will always be a joker but he doesn't need to be a liar.
MICHAEL
One would think that Michael Scott is king of the liars over at Dunder Mifflin Scranton. He wants to be this imaginary version of himself so badly that he doesn't care about lying to others as long as it makes him look cool.
He lied about having a girlfriend when he stepped on a George Foreman Grill, he created a fake Christmas card skiing with Carol and her two kids, he promised an entire class that he would pay for all their college tuitions, he spread rumors about the entire office to hide Stanley's affair... the list doesn't end. But there's one person in the office who's a bigger liar than Michael...
CREED
Creed Bratton's entire life is a lie. Viewers don't know one thing about Creed besides the fact that he's creepy. Viewers (and Creed himself) didn't even know what he did at Duder Mifflin when Holly Flax came to work at the Scranton branch and asked. He's most likely a sociopath. When a disgruntled employee made a crude drawing on thousands of pieces of paper, Creed had to lie out of that one to save his job.
In the last season, we even found out that Creed Bratton wasn't even his real name and he had multiple warrants out for his arrest. And so the question persists, who is Creed Bratton?
