The Mutant Chronicles Official Website Is Live

I haven't heard much about The Mutant Chronicles, which is surprising considering that the cast includes Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman, John Malkovich and Sean Pertwee.

Last night I was watching Deep Blue Sea which stars Thomas Jane. On a side note: Man, I love that movie. It's junk, but it doesn't pretend to be anything other than a dumb, fun shark movie. It got me thinking about what upcoming movies he might be appearing in, and I had a few free minutes at work (it's rare, but it happens), so I decided to check out Thomas Jane's upcoming films.

This ended up leading me to The Mutant Chronicles official website. Now I'm not sure how long this site has been up, but there are some interesting goodies.

First up, here's an abridged version of the films synopsis:

Earth's natural resources have been exhausted by mankind and battle rages between the soldiers of four leading Corporations: the Capitol, Bauhaus, Mishima and Imperial.

When an errant shell destroys an ancient stone seal, Mitch Hunter and Nathan Rooker find themselves facing a new enemy: hideous necromutants, with boneblades that grow from their arms. Mitch barely manages to escape. Nathan does not.

The mutants multiply by millions and they destroy all before them. The Corporations' leader, Constantine, is about to abandon the planet and leave countless innocents to their desperate fate.

He manages to recruit Mitch, along with a handful of like-minded soldiers.

The film follows Mitch's mission to venture into the very heart of the darkness in an attempt to save the planet from marauding hordes of deathless mutants.

Sounds pretty interesting don't you think?

The website has some good behind the scenes clips and it looks like there's going to be much more going up: trailers and the usual marketing material. However the most interesting piece of footage is the "mood piece trailer", which is basically a short film showing the style, tone and well, the mood of the film.

Now, Thomas Jane is a pretty cool guy, and like Hugh Jackman, he is one of the few good leading men under 50, so it's always good to see him in a fun action romp. I really hope that this film is as cool as it sounds, and fingers crossed that it is a violent piece of action cinema in the vein of Aliens.

The marketing machine on this one hasn't started up yet, but as more news comes in I'll keep you posted.

No release date beyond the vague "2008" has been set at this time.
