With the release of The Medium coming up next week, developer Bloober Team is looking to clear up a few questions like what, exactly, does a medium do and what are the game’s requirements on PC? The psychological horror title will be coming exclusively to Microsoft platforms – Xbox Series X/S and PC – on January 28. It was first revealed during an Xbox games showcase back in May of 2020 and follows Marianne, whose psychic abilities allow her to investigate the paranormal. The game was originally set to release alongside Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, but only a month away from its December launch, the creators announced the title would need to be delayed into 2021.

Bloober Team has not been wasting this extra time leading up to the game’s January launch and this month has seen the studio release a series of creepy trailers. Among the first of these gave players a nearly 15-miunte look at The Medium’s gameplay. It showed off the game’s unique split-screen mechanic which allows the player to control the protagonist in the real world and in the spirit world simultaneously. More recently, Bloober Team released a tone-setting, live-action trailer. While the footage will not give players a sense of the moment-to-moment action in the game, it is absolutely haunting and aims to reflect the game’s general atmosphere.

Today’s glimpse into The Medium had a very particular purpose according to Bloober Team, explaining the function of the game’s gifted protagonist’s powers. The short video emphasizes a medium’s ability to “see, feel, and sense things,” that are beyond the scope of normal humans. Mechanically speaking, this can lead to interesting puzzle-solving during gameplay and can also help the player discover more about the game’s story. In addition to this helpful video breakdown, the studio also dropped a detailed chart for PC players looking to pick the game up. The image shares information on the very minimum requirements to the highest possible settings for The Medium.

The Medium PC Requirements

When The Medium releases on January 28 it will be coming to Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s subscription service that lets players download a large selection of games for a nominal monthly fee. The upcoming title will be in good company too as Microsoft recently announced that its January Game Pass lineup will include titles like the Yakuza Remastered Collection, Donut County, and Outer Wilds. Any player with a Microsoft Game Pass subscription will be able to pick these games up, among others, this month.

Game Pass is getting a lot of praise from critics and fans alike for being a low-cost way to experience a lot of games and it is possible The Medium will see a bump from being on the service the day of its release. Subscribed players that may not have been willing to pick up an unproven IP for full price may be watching all of these trailers by Bloober Team and decide to give it a chance on Game Pass.
