'The Mechanic' Trailer #2 Is Explosion Friendly

The Mechanic movie Jason Statham Ben Foster

While we're eagerly awaiting the day that Jason Statham decides to branch out a little and play a sensitive flower shop owner in a Nora Ephron rom-com, the former Olympic diver certainly knows how to play an intimidating action star onscreen, and will do it again in The Mechanic.

Statham plays the role of professional killer Arthur Bishop in the action flick, which was originally a Charles Bronson vehicle back in 1972. If the second trailer is any indication, the Mechanic remake is as explosion friendly as Statham's last cinematic outing, The Expendables.

Check out the official synopsis for The Mechanic below:

Arthur Bishop (Statham) is a 'mechanic' – an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets. It's a job that requires professional perfection and total detachment, and Bishop is the best in the business. But when his mentor and close friend Harry (Donald Sutherland) is murdered, Bishop is anything but detached. His next assignment is self-imposed – he wants those responsible dead.

His mission grows complicated when Harry's son Steve (Ben Foster) approaches him with the same vengeful goal and a determination to learn Bishop's trade. Bishop has always acted alone but he can't turn his back on Harry's son.

Con Air director Simon West was at the helm for Statham's Mechanic, which looks to feature plenty in the way of gunfights and cryptic one-liners. In this second trailer alone, a gas station and several cars are blown up, which makes us wonder how much property damage will have resulted by the time the end credits start to roll on this flick.

The Mechanic hits theaters in the dumping ground that is January, which is never a good sign for a film's quality. It still looks to deliver exactly what action genre fans want (lots of mindless violence with a dash of sex) and should appeal to those that never tire of seeing Statham killing people on the big screen.

Foster has appeared in action-driven pics like X-Men: The Last Stand, 3:10 to Yuma, Pandorum and 30 Days of Night over the past few years. He's not yet gotten the opportunity to prove himself capable of being leading action star material, but maybe - like his character, Steve - Foster learned a few new tricks while working alongside Statham in The Mechanic that'll benefit his action movie persona.
