President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has recently given a much-needed update on The Marvels, with 2023's upcoming MCU team-up being much more exciting as a result. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige divulged plenty of information about the next few years of MCU projects. From naturally promoting 2023's first big MCU release in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to mentioning the introduction of the Mutants and Spider-Man 4, Feige did not skimp on the significant details surrounding Marvel Studios' future.

Another project Feige also spoke about was The Marvels, currently scheduled for release in July 2023. The film is a direct sequel to Captain Marvel, while also serving as a follow-up of sorts to WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. With the film centering on the team-up of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan, Feige has revealed some interesting tidbits about The Marvels' story, including likening it to a former MCU team-up that makes the film even more exciting than it was before.

The Marvels' Dynamic Being Like The Avengers (2012) Is A Great Sign

The Avengers 2012 Cast Team

During the interview with EW, Feige was asked about the dynamic between the central trio of The Marvels, and how that would play out in the film. In response to this, Feige described the team-up as "immensely powerful... only akin to the first Avengers movie and seeing the six of them together in a frame." This comparison is incredibly exciting for various reasons. Firstly, the 2012 film has some of the best character work in an MCU team-up movie, with the dynamics and interplay between the original six heroes in The Avengers providing some of its best moments and fully making audiences invest in the group.

While Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame offered up unprecedented levels of hype due to the sheer amount of heroes on screen, the interactions were naturally less frequent and character-driven given the sheer size of the respective films' casts. With The Avengers though, the character dynamics massively stood out and are arguably the best parts of the film, which bodes well for The Marvels if the same can be said about Monica, Carol, and Kamala.

Will The Marvels Become A True MCU Super Team?

This comparison from Feige is also exciting due to the implications it could have on the future of the MCU. As evident by the Infinity Saga, 2012's The Avengers saw the titular team become the focal point of the next seven years of filmmaking and helped define almost every MCU movie in some way. If Feige is likening the Marvels to the Avengers, the former team could end up becoming a true super-team much as the latter did. This could mean that future Captain Marvel sequels could be solely focused on The Marvels.

While Captain Marvel was an enjoyable film in its own right, seeing Carol interact with other characters has often made her character shine. Due to this, and Feige's Avengers comparisons, the future of Captain Marvel in the MCU could center on her leading the Marvels. Rather than Captain Marvel 3, any future film involving Carol could be The Marvels 2, for example, truly establishing the trio as an MCU super-team to be reckoned with after 2023's superhero movie adventure, The Marvels.
